I may have a problem with mine as the A/C switch or button does not come on when I use any mode. I always have to select it manually. But the compressor always seems to be active regardless if the A/C light is on or off. Thanks
That sounds normal. It only lights up when you hit the button, pretty much forcing the compressor on. When the system is in Auto the light doesn't turn on any time the compressor kicks in. Pretty much dumbed down because the average driver would complain about the light going on and off without them pushing the button.

Re: How do I turn A/C compressor off

All Air Conditioning Systems will turn the Compressor "Off" if/when the Evaporator temperature falls below approximately 28*F-30*F. This is done by directly measuring the temperature of the Evaporator or measuring the Low Side Refrigerant Pressure. Either way, the reason is to prevent the moisture that condenses out of the air and forms on the Evaporator from freezing. The reason the Evaporator can be run at temperatures slightly below 32*F is that the incoming air flow contains sufficient heat that the water will droplets will fall off of the Evaporator before the Latent Heat of Fusion can be removed and the water freezes. You do not want water to freeze on an Evaporator becuase it will: 1.) Block the flow of air, and more importantly 2.) Because water expands when it freezes; it will literally rip an Evaporator apart if allowed to form in sufficient amounts on the Evaporator.

Re: How do I turn A/C compressor off

Does anyone know if the A/C compressor can be turned off in any mode at all. From what the manual says the compressor is active in all modes even if the A/C switch is not selected and light not on. 12 Overland V8

Re: How do I turn A/C compressor off

Just pull the Low side pressure switch! or pull the A/C Clutch fuse...

Re: How do I turn A/C compressor off

My windows fogged up yesterday and it was 25 degrees out. Also, my A/C was on but I immediately shut it off. I don't know how it comes on. I might have turned the fan down too and messed with some other HVAC buttons; can't remember. Should the A/C be on even when the temp is in the 20s to prevent fogging of the windows? What is the best way to prevent or remove window fogging?

Re: How do I turn A/C compressor off

Pages 403 and 404 of the 2012 Owner's Manual state, in pertinent part:

Quote:
The air conditioning compressor operates in Mix,
Defrost, or a blend of these modes, even if the Air
Conditioning (A/C) button is not pressed. This dehumidifies
the air to help dry the windshield. To improve
fuel economy, use these modes only when necessary.
****
The A/C will engage automatically to prevent fogging
when the recirculation button is pressed and the mode

control is set to panel or panel / floor.

The 2012 Owner's Manual doesn't say that. The A/C light illuminates whenever the system turns on the A/C compressor. Page 404 states, in pertinent part:
Quote:
The A/C can be deselected manually without disturbing the mode control selection.

Re: How do I turn A/C compressor off

I am also frustrated with this. It has been warm lately but not warm enough for the AC. I’ve opened the windows & sunroof a lot and I don’t like turning the system completely off but that is the only way I have found to keep the AC from running.

Auto mode - Obviously AC does whatever it needs to. Light never comes on.
Manual mode – AC is on with any airflow combination besides face only (per the manual). Light never comes on – even if you lower the temp to 60F with the outside temp at 80F and the AC is clearly being used.

The AC button appears to only function as ‘Turn AC on now’ (lighted) or ‘Use as needed’ (unlit). It doesn’t turn the AC off. I have even put it on face only airflow and turned the temp down with the button unlit (per the manual, this shouldn’t use AC) but the AC still gets used.

The only way I have found to turn the AC off is to turn the whole system off.
