How is Your High Mileage WK2 Holding Up?

I bought a new Overland V8 in March 2012, just as we were getting started on a cabin construction project a couple hundred miles from our home. About a week ago, I bumped over 80,000 miles, and I have to say (knock on wood) that it's been a pretty good experience. Issues to date:

-Noisy sunroof when delivered (fixed by dealer with an adjustment).

-Brake booster failure at approximately 50K miles (fixed by dealer for the $100 deductible of my extended warranty coverage; possibly the same defect that led to a later recall)
.
-Occasional squeakiness from somewhere around the cargo area in cold temperatures (no resolution, but it goes away when temps get near freezing).

-A couple of alarming instances of the engine dying when decelerating from highway speed (I was near the tuneup interval and when the dealer replaced by spark plugs, the original plugs were toast; no recurrence after that).

That's pretty much it. The ol' GC has been extremely reliable and actually seems to run and shift better than it did in its younger days. It's done everything I've asked of it with minimal hiccups, and I'd rate its overall quality and reliability as highly as anything I've owned in 44 years of driving. It's actually a bit of surprise to me, as Jeep often gets knocked for quality issues.

Re: How is Your High Mileage WK2 Holding Up?

68.6K on my '11 Laredo X and it purrs along like new. No issues since buying it... but that was only four months ago with 63K. From the records I've seen... doesn't appear to have had any major issues during its life. I know the elderly couple that previously owned it pretty much "babied" it since new.

2011 3.6 with 117K. Nothing major at all. Only needed a few small bolt on parts.

45k on my 2014 overland
Pretty good so far with the exception of the "driveway rated" thread
No rattles even with the new sound system.
Still have that stupid bump when accelerating from low speed...hopefully will get fixed with that TSB that also fixes the Eco button.

Re: How is Your High Mileage WK2 Holding Up?

Had almost 90k on our 2012 SRT when we traded it in. Had the A/C / Heater blender door fail around 75K miles, no other issues at all.

General tune up stuff as recommended by mileage, otherwise just drove the Hell out of it.

Yep, "Yikes!" is right. It happened twice, decelerating from highway speed to make a turn. Both times I was initiating a turn and lost power steering. I'm kind of a moose and was able to compensate, but if my wife had been driving it might have been difficult for her to retain control.

I was a couple thousand miles short of the plug replacement interval when I took it in. They couldn't identify anything that would cause it, other than the plugs, which they characterized as being in very bad shape. I haven't had any recurrence since they replaced them, so they must have been right.

Re: How is Your High Mileage WK2 Holding Up?

113,xxx kms on my '12 Grand Cherokee and she's running like a champ.

A list of issues that my dealership fixed w/o question;
  • windshield washer fluid spray nozzles (replaced under warranty). Need to watch out for this one as it happens because of the extreme temperatures here in Toronto. From blazing hot summers to frigid winters is the reason why they crack at the inlet under the hood.
  • HVAC blower motor noise (replaced under warranty)
  • Trunk/Cargo Hatch window seal (replaced under warranty) - Found out the seal was fine from previous but Chrysler acknowledged that some Grand cherokees had this seal installed incorrectly causing the leak into the trunk/cargo area and tail lights. Sounds like an employee went to work high or drunk that day.
  • Tail lights (replaced under warranty). Seals broke down due to the above.
  • Brake booster failure (replaced under warranty). Same issue as major recall.
  • Brake Booster recall. Dealer applied seal kit as Brake booster was previously replaced due to failure
  • Sun Visor recall. (Replaced under recall notice)

Out of pocket for obvious reasons.
  • OEM brakes (replaced after 35,000kms). I do a lot of boat and poppup camper trailing in the summer so this is understood. I replaced with Powerstop rotors and Premium Ceramic pads. Surprisingly the brake pad wear is not nearly as quick as the OEMs

I've been getting a few misfires as my diablosport is reporting but this is more then likely because I need to change out the original spark plugs. Just waiting for it to warm up a bit here to attack this myself.

Other then this my Grand Cherokee has been solid and reliable.

Like any vehicle keep up with the regular maintenance items. Change oil at the proper intervals, Transmission fluid and filter changes, transfer case fluid change, and front / rear diff.

Re: How is Your High Mileage WK2 Holding Up?

I bought my 2012 Laredo X with the Hemi used in October of 2013 with about 45k miles on it. I currently have 82k miles on her. Since that time, I have had the following issues:

1. Windshield washer nozzles - twice
2. Door/Window control panel driver side needed to be replaced. (warranty)
3. Brake booster recall
4. Sun visor recall
5. Replaced broken molding on drivers side seat
6. Water pump replaced at 80k miles. (warranty)
7. After a tuneup in December I started experiencing the check engine light going off. It has been brought in 3 times for that issue. It is currently in the shop to have a potential bad lifter replaced and possibly the camshaft (under warranty).

I've been good with the maintenance on her, and follow the manufacturers recommended schedule for all service.

You're asking the wrong question.

Generally, if people are keeping a vehicle to get to high mileage, it means they're not having major issues that would prevent them from wanting to keep the vehicle all those miles.

The people that are having major problems are likely to dump their vehicles much earlier.

Once a vehicle gets over 50k, it's either going to get to 100k or you're already having issues that make you ready to unload it as soon as you can.

So, the better question to ask is how many are or were having issues in general and whether those issues (if any) were solved long term.

Otherwise, the bulk of the responses you'll get are "X number of miles and all has been pretty good..." or something similar.
