How to defog windshield when A/C doesn't work..

Any ideas? Now that its cold, everytime I drive my windshield and windows get fogged up.. My A/C doesn't work, so no matter what I do, the fog remains. Its getting to the point where I cant see when I'm driving, I have to constantly wipe the fog off to see where I am going.

Is there any solutions besides getting my A/C fixed???

Re: How to defog windshield when A/C doesn't work..

Even if the AC doesn't work the defrost position, high fan speed, and some heat should defog the windows. Just like the days before AC... or are you saying none of that works? Do you happen to have a coolant leak? You may have to ride with the windows open.

Re: How to defog windshield when A/C doesn't work..

I had this problem when my A/C stopped working in my old car. I applied Rain-X Anti Fog treatment and it worked great.

Rain-X Anti-Fog - Rain-X

Yes none of that works... I did recently have a leaking radiator hose but that has been fixed for about a week. I dont think that would have had any effect anyways right?

Ill have to try the rainx.

Re: How to defog windshield when A/C doesn't work..

Either park where the morning sun is on the windscreen or pull into the sun for a few minutes. If neither is possible and sits out, put a towel over the windshield at night, will keep from getting colder than air temp. Of course as soon as you get in with the windows up, the windscreen will fog from your breath.

Why is your entire HVAC system not working ? Just heated air over the windscreen (defrost) will help even if the a/c doesn't.

Buy one of these and plug it into the outlet on the back of the center console?

The heat works fine it just doesnt clear the fog.... Hell even when I roll down the windows it doesnt help..

Do you think this could be accumulation of smoke residue from the years I used to smoke?

I also notice during a warm day sometimes Ill get small fog patches next to the defrost vents even though the rest of the windshield is clear... the real bad fogging occurs on cold nights only...

Does that sound like a leaking heater core or other problem?

Re: How to defog windshield when A/C doesn't work..

I had a heater core go bad and it filled the car up with smoke. It sucked.

Why is your AC broke? Did you get that looked at?

Thats classic heater core leak symtoms, windows fog up. Don't think there is another way water could be leaking into the heater core area, perhaps a blocked condensation drain pipe? Are you talking about the WK2 or your WJ?

Its for my WJ, sorry posted on this forum to get some more views (as it applies to all cars)... is there a way to check for a leaking heater core or blocked condensation drain? I have no idea where either is located... everyone says check passenger side floor to see if its wet. Mine is bone dry...
