How to remove factory/dealer writing on sidewalls?

As the title sates, I have some markings/writing on my side walls. Looks like chalk was used or maybe a wax pencil. The markings are brown in color and are almost like letters or symbols. I have one or two per tire and its driving me crazy. I tried using Palmolive (degreaser) and a soft brush but they wouldn't come off. I even tried my pressure washer (only 1600 psi... relax) and nothing. They have been on there since the day I picked my rig up at the dealer. I am assuming they are from the factory

Anyone else have these markings? what worked for you to get them off without damaging the tire?

thanks,
Anthony

Even though they are black, get some Westley's whitewall cleaner. If that doesn't take it off, learn to live with it.

I'll second that. There is no tire stain that this stuff can't get rid of. If you haven't tried this stuff, you haven't tried hard enough:

... and yes those markings did come from us. Be careful though, this stuff is strong and your nose will hate you. Stay as far away as possible from the tire while spraying.

So what do the markings mean or stand for?

Thanks for the suggestion... I used to use that stuff all the time on previous cars. It really does work wonders. I'll give it a try this weekend.

Drop a pic of the markings and someone might be able to decipher them.

They wouldn't be chalk, probably not grease pencil, more likely some type of paint marker.

The cleaner noted above works pretty good, and I've discovered ordinary old liquid Tide is better at greasy removal than GooGone, etc.

If those both fail, careful scrubbing with Mineral Spirits followed by Tide or similar to remove that.

Or, a can of Rustoleum rubber based black undercoating...

Re: How to remove factory/dealer writing on sidewalls?

If Westleys doesn't work, I would leave them, and let them wear off on their own (rub against a few curbs ). I wouldn't used any harsh chemicals that are not designed for tires. Tires are pretty important, and you wouldn't want a silly mark turn into a replacement or failure.

Re: How to remove factory/dealer writing on sidewalls?

They look like chalk, but that should remove with just a toothbrush.

As for what they mean, ? no idea. Have seen similar in a tire store rack and beyond that no idea.

Any suggestions for removing markings (numbers) on the rim itself? I'm afraid to use whitewall cleaner there...

It would help to know what the markings are... as that would lead to whether they could be removed without affecting the wheel's protective coating. Not being rich enough to afford new wheels, I'd probably chicken out and see if a body shop could help.

"114" was written on the rim from the factory (just picked it up on Friday). It looked sort of like chalk but didn't come off with soap and water. Finally got it off with a little window cleaner and elbow grease.

Re: How to remove factory/dealer writing on sidewalls?

Looks like marks from a grease pen. I'd still like to know why they are there?
