Re: Humm in front end... Known problem but no solution according to Chrysler

I've been wanting to get my hands on either a set of laredo 17 or 18" wheels/tires and quickly swap to see if there's a difference.

I had my tires rotated too just to make sure it wasn't a bad tire on the front. The noise was still there after the rotation.

Re: Humm in front end... Known problem but no solution according to Chrysler

I've got a Laredo with the 17" wheels and I have just started noticing the same noise. There is another thread on this and at the time I responded to it I did not have the noise but it is there now. Notice when I reach 45 mph and higher. Sound like I am running on eat up pavement or a rough road.

OK so not wheels or tires. Unlikely to be a wheel bearing or CV joint because those are not unique to the WK2.

Re: Humm in front end... Known problem but no solution according to Chrysler

I think someone on another thread mentioned that replacing the bearing fixed the problem.

It looks to me that those two threads (The second is inside) are connected with this.

I am trying to teach myself ignoring this sound.

Re: Humm in front end... Known problem but no solution according to Chrysler

They have been working on mine since February.at 1 point it was in the garage for a month they first rotated the tires then when it was in for a mont replaced both front wheel bearings power steering rack and prop shaft.back in February I paid 150$ to go over the car because of a slight noise they topped off the power steering fluid and rotated the tires all else ok or so they thought.they screwed up and missed the power steering rack and it cupped and feathered all 4 tires to the pooint the edges on the inside are almost bald.the dealer who did all the repairs said it is supposed to sound like that I told it never did before.i went to another dealer they said the rack leaking caused the tires to wear I correctly and that is what is causing the noise now.called Chrysler and they are working on getting 4 tires approved.that is my front end noise story do far.i have heard of the brake dust shield also causing a noise and vibration under certain conditions.good luck

Re: Humm in front end... Known problem but no solution according to Chrysler

Does Chrysler monitor these forums? Maybe some of the suggestions would help them find a problem.

one thing i have noticed, my tires are wearing very quickly. three or four of my friends have commented that i need new tires after 25k on the jeep. could that be impacting things? wear is mostly on the outside of the tires. i now have 34,500 on the jeep.

i gave the dealer until wednesday of next week for a gameplan. should that not happen, i'll start with a direct call. if that doesnt work, i'll start the legal action.

Check your tire pressure and stop ripping those corners.

Where do you ski?

You can't beat western skiing. I want to ski in Germany someday, hopefully soon. But don't discount the NC ski areas. I'm in three race leagues and we have a hoot here.

Re: Humm in front end... Known problem but no solution according to Chrysler

mine is a 2011 oveland 5.7 qudradrive 2 and quadralift 13000 miles.my tires are worn because of the rack was bad, have you checked your power steering fluid if it is low raise your jeep up and inspect the boots on the left and right.i have had a full time awd jeep since 1997 and all have wron out tires rather quickly.mine had always had a humm to it from day 1 but at 12000 it started to change tone and the steering wheeel had more of a direct vibration.the 20" tires and wheels do make more noise as all lower profile tires do,there is a individual that posts here who works for a company that has several 2011-2012 grand cherokees from limiteds to overlands and he noticed all with the 20" good years and the quaddradrive made more noise but if your vehicle is making more than normal there is something wrong.the dealer i was dealing with convinced the crysler rep that was the way the car was sopossed to sound the new dealer convinced the crysler rep the first dealer was in over their head.
