Hi,
New to the Jeep Garage, and I'm currently searching for any information relating to the HVAC blower motor continuously cycling on for approx. 50 seconds, then off for approx. 25 seconds when the HVAC system is turned on/running. This does not occur when the system is off.
Bought our 2011 WK2 Grand Cherokee Laredo used, and recently found pieces of the actuator gear on the passenger floor. Actuator and cam/gear on order, glove box and silencer removed.
HVAC was working until this week, checked/charged R134a, it works, driver side A/C & Heat controls work, passenger side controls get no response, so will be fixing that when parts arrive.
I'm not sure if these two issues are related in any way, but I'd like to troubleshoot and diagnose this problem while I've got it taken apart, so any insight or help would be appreciated.
Sounds like the sacraficial plastic gear shattered that is part of the passenger temperature blend door actuator. Simple fix if so. Your actuator should be fine.
Short version: when the actuator does a sweep, it's travel is out of range. Hvac lets you know by toying with the fan.
@Ratchet - Thanks for the info. Finally got it changed, and once the gear was seated properly within the specified range of travel, motor started working properly. Added a bit of freon while I was at it, and now passengers turn to ice cubes.
@DKRD12 - Thanks. Found the diagram and repair info., which made the repair much easier. At $3 a pop, I ordered a few extra gears, just in case.

I know this is an old post but I recently took my 2011 WK2 in because it was blowing cold on the left side and burning hot on the right side. They determined it was a broken actuator gear and subsequently a bad blower door which they replaced under extended warranty. A couple of days later when it was hot enough to use my A/C I noticed it was cycling on/off like you said. Interesting enough it only did this for about 15 minutes then went back to normal. They first said when it's on auto it does that. Well by driving it for 10 years I realize when you set it on auto it acts as a thermostat and maintains the selected temperature but it doesn't shut totally off and start back on high. I had the shop foreman and service advisor sit in it while on manual and unlike most times when it won't act up when someone else is present it did it again . Now that they witnessed it they couldn't brush it off. Long story short they replaced relay and although I just picked it up it appears to be fine. I will now let it cool down and try again to see if it's fixed for good. I initially thought the gear was misaligned since they just replaced it but perhaps it's just coincidental or they didn't want to admit the original repair wasn't done correctly. In any case I hope this resolves it.
