I noticed that the bolt that holds the fan to the housing was extremely corroded. So corroded, in fact, that I had a hard time determining if it was actually a hex head that I was looking at. Obviously, some water is getting by the in cabin filter. My guess is that the corrosion traveled down the bolt, and began to affect the bearings.

Only about 15 minutes to drop the blower, and 150 for the new part. My GC is covered under the extended warranty, and I had it replaced at the dealer yesterday. All is well, but I think it will most likely happen again, unless the water issue is addressed. My plan is to drop that blower again, and coat the top bolt hex in either a lithium grease, or maybe even a glob of silicon sealant to prevent this new part from corroding. Has anyone else noticed this?

I am in the same situation as you with the extended warranty. Was $150 the actual amount you paid for your deductible? Or did you pay less, since you have the extended warranty?

Thanks.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Keeping this old thread alive here.

2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude

Just under 15,000 miles - I have this same issue everyone is describing here. Anything lower than full blast on the HVAC the fan behind the glove box is loud - it sounds either like bad bearings or the fan has sucked up

Guess I'll be seeing the dealer this weekend.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Another stir-up on this thread. I've got the same issue with my '14 Limited. Blower makes a buzzing/whine sound which makes it sound like it's coming from the passenger side air vent. Started around 9k miles. Noise goes up and down along with the speed of the fan. Anything over level 5 or 6 and the air noise will probably drown it out. Had a tech check it out today, said yep, blower motor, have replaced a bunch so far. He actually went on to say that he replaced one that was even louder than the original so it sounds like the quality is sub-par with these things. Anyways, dealer is ordering part and will replace shortly.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

I've also fallen victim to the faulty HVAC fan, as the noise just started up out of no where one day.

Sometimes it is completely inaudible and not a problem. But then I'll come back to the car and start it up to be greeted with the lovely buzzing sound when the air is on. It's been getting worse and more frequent, so I'll probably bite the bullet (again) and take it in to have the techs stare at me like a dumbass. Maybe they'll actually understand with this problem because it seems fairly common. We'll see...

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

I had this happen this morning. Took it to my dealer and the tech looked at me and said he only heard the normal sounds of a vent. It appears I am going to have to twist some arms to get this repaired. This is also my first problem with the jeep and first visit to the service department. Not thrilled thus far.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Just to report back in, in case people didn't read my response in other threads on the same issue, I was able to get it fixed. They replaced my fan motor, in case that is a place to point in the direction of being a problem for your service tech.

They "just barely" heard it for a second and decided it was worth replacing. I was surprised they did it so easily and actually resolved the problem on the first try. Who knows how your dealer will respond though, unfortunately.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Had my fan motor changed when I bought my truck. I also have a Dodge Caliber and my fan motor is a little noisy. Must be a common problem with Crysler.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Final update:

Took the jeep in this morning for them to look at the noise. They replaced the blower motor and it's good as new.

Good to hear it's been resolved for you and the motor was the culprit.

Just wanted to ask..I have a '14 Limited and also had/have this FAN-Problem. Compared to another Jeep Overland at the Garage and the Blower was 100% silent there. Mine was worst on level 2 (which happens to be the level usually running while in AUTO).
They replaced the blower and it seems to be slightly more quiet. I could live with it like this, but would like to know from you if your Blower is completely silent at level 2 since the replacement? Should I make them replace a second time if it is still slightly audible?
Thx for any input...
