Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Doesn't matter what brand it is. It's likely a design flaw. Even OEM parts are supplied by aftermarket suppliers.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Design flaw or not, it would be profitable to correct the design and make a better replacement available. It's not like there are tens of thousands of Jeep and Dodge vehicles out there needing this issue fixed.

Replace the air cabin filter. That's the solution

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

I change my cabin air filter every year despite low mileage. It's a bearings issue. Common in many WK2. Unfortunately.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

In my 2011 I had a noise when the fan itself was on. Didn't matter hot or cold. I noticed it most on its lowest speed. I got sick of it one day and removed gold 3 torx screws. Once I opened the panel the 3 screws held I was able to lower the fan motor and unplug it. Once open I could see a parking receipt that had fallen into the void of my dash and gotten sucked in somehow. Also there was quite a bit of rust around the shaft of the fan. I sprayed some WD40 in all the relevant places, put it back together and I had a fan that made zero noise. No dealer, no mechanic. 30 minutes of my time and I haven't had an issue since.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

I will give that a try if it happens again. These noises are caused by moisture getting on thr enter of the shaft and it gets past the seal and into the bearings. I'll gladly lubricate with lithium grease if it's that accessible, but only after I have sprayed some silicone at the base. This happens to the bearings on the electric motor of my hot tub as the impeller running the jets can weep some hot water from its seals. 5 rebuilds later I asked them to put a tight rubber band on the shaft in the small space between the motor and the impeller. Haven't had to replace the bearings in the past 2 years. A record.

Re: HVAC Fan Noise

Just comparing electrical powered engines that use roller bearings that are susceptible to problems from moisture getting into the system via the shaft that's being turned to push a fan or impeller in the case of the hot tub motor. Come on now. Principles of electric motors are very similar in many things.

Not a lemon as it held a 7 year warranty. I'm just past my 8th year of ownership and use it 2-3 times a day for medical care/rehabilitation. Just talking guys of different machines.

If your indoor home fan gets the main crank wet and it leaks ever so small into the bearings you will have the same kind of problems.
