Re: I am Out of Here

Great choice. We are currently cross shopping Touareg vs Cayenne vs Grand Cherokee. The GC should be the easy winner as we're at a point in our lives where value matters, but after owning my JKU I know all about how piss poor Chrysler's dealer network is. Talking about all the bad experiences I've had with them actually makes me more physically ill than the thought of spending an extra $10k for the Touareg or even an extra $25k for a comparable Cayenne does.

We were actually considering the Jeep thinking it'd be more reliable than the Germans. Good to know you feel it will be reliable. A neighbor of mine has a Cayenne Turbo S and it spends a good amount of time in service but it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Then again it's not as big a deal as they drop off loaners and pick the Cayenne up whenever it needs service and their loaners are actually nicely specced above base vehicels(maybe he gets the nicest ones because he also has a gt3rs 4.0). Sure beats the Dodge Dart Chrysler will give you if you're lucky enough to schedule your appointment 6 weeks in advance lol

I have owned German cars (typically always high maintenance), Japanese (typically low maintenance) and now, my first Jeep, a 2015 GC High Altitude. Unfortunately, dealer service differs from one dealer to another. Your relationship with the GM and service personnel can make a huge difference. A $20 tip to your service advisor, a Starbucks gift card to the tech, or other forms of appreciation or "sucking up" can set the stage for a satisfying experience. Anyone can get stuck with any particular make and model that just needs more TLC, regardless of make or price. Remember, you're married to the service department for a long time. As in much of life, building the right relationship makes it easier. Note:This is merely my opinion based on past experience.

Re: I am Out of Here

I came from a Touareg and crossed shopped the RR Sport and Cayenne. I just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra coin to get an comparably equipped version over my high altitude. I loved my Touareg v8, but once it got out of warranty (had 120,000 miles on it) the repair costs were out of control.

I have almost 7000 miles on my High Altitude and the car has been flawless other than complaints about the low temperature heated seats.

I will say that Chrysler really needs to step up their dealer situation, particularly if they are trying to poach higher end brand buyers with $50k + SUVs.

The dealer closes to me uses Enterprise rent-a-car due to insurance on loaners. I'm sure they aren't getting comparable vehicles to the one being serviced.

When I had my Acura, I always got a nice loaner. Typically a nicely speced sedan like the TL or RL and I only drove a Integra at the time.

Re: I am Out of Here

Although I see where you guys are coming from, but I also believe the cost of that better service and dealership experience is part of that high price tag on some of the other high end models. I mean think about it, how much does a comparably equipped Lexus, or BMW, or something like that cost compared to the Grand Cherokee? We are talking maybe atleast 15-20 grand? You can buy an entire other car for that cost. So when you are getting a lot of vehicle for the price compared to the others, then something probably isn't going to be as good...in this case its the dealership. So thats how I see it anyway. No clue if its true or not, but sounds reasonable lol.
For what its worth I have had no problems dealing with Jeep dealerships. Granted I have never had any issues, but for basic things they seem great so far.
Nne thing that I would miss would be the loaners. As mentioned above I have owned an Acura and bringing your car in for work or service was a treat, you get to leave in a nicer car than you brought in lol. That's a ploy to get you to buy something newer I'm sure as well as just an all around nice gesture, and I bet it works! The thing is I knew that going into it. When I purchased my Jeep I knew I wouldn't get to drive an SRT loaner when mine needed repairs... So really, there is nothing to complain about. When you go into a McDonald's, you know before going there that you wont get any service, the product wont be top notch, but you will get a lot for your money. Kind of the same I guess haha. Is there room for improvement? absolutely, but I think if they can get the dealerships to step things up a little bit then it would be a great all around experience.

My bad experiences all have to do with customer service incompetence, not hard benefits. Buying my JKU took six dealerships until one wasn't playing games only willing to negotiate monthly payments and then on delivery day when I thought I'd found an okay dealership they tried to pull the wool over my eyes.

I get that they're not going to give out real nice loaners as most of their cars aren't all that nice. The issue is that they promise loaners when you buy the car, but then whenever you actually need a loaner it's 'oh you need to make the appointment a month in advance.' Well if I know I'm going to be car-less a month in advance I can plan to not need the car. Additionally not one single time have they gotten my JKU in and out when promised. It usually takes an entire extra day and in three cases it took two extra days from when promised. The sad thing is it's not just one dealer, it's every new one I try.

That being said, it's all a result of all car makers moving away from community dealers towards super sized dealerships. Even our BMW/Mini dealer's customer service(which was always truly exceptional) has gone to shit as they've started leasing cars to any human with a pulse.

Re: I am Out of Here

^^^ Interesting, no one ever once said anything about loaners when I have purchased my Chryslers, infact right on the vehicles manual there is a sticker in bright orange saying they do not offer loaners lol.

In my area I get the feeling they're dealer funded programs vs manufacturer funded at many other brands. They've all started offering them as well as things like having service open til midnight to compete with each other. Unfortunately they're all biting off more than they can chew and making promises they can't keep. Anyway this has gotten off track quickly.

Re: I am Out of Here

I think a Chrysler dealer that has loaners is a rare exception.

Re: I am Out of Here

My dealer has loaners with the dealer logo on them. They also have a shuttle service that will take you and pick you up when you need transport. Loaners are not always available, but the shuttle service is, although you might have to wait a little while. And of course, with a MaxCare warranty, there's an Enterprise rental agency right across the street. It's not always 100% perfect, but they really try.

Re: I am Out of Here

Neither dealers within an hour of me offer loaners. They have a 10+ year old shuttle van. No thanks.

Chrysler ownership sucks. But if you are lucky enough to get a good one like I have been, then it doesn't matter too much.

Re: I am Out of Here

My dealer also offers loaners (as long as you schedule ahead and mention it) and a decent shuttle service which I have used. I think Jacko15 and I frequent the same dealer actually, they usually do a good job with the work/service but it's not a high end luxury dealership service experience, but then again I really just want my vehicle serviced correctly without incident and be treated decently so it works fine for me.

Also to OP sorry to hear your Jeep experience wasn't up to par and left you wanting to leave Jeep entirely. I have had issues with my JGC in fact more than I care for with a new vehicle but my dealer has resolved most of these and that goes a long way to keeping a customer satisfied with their vehicle. Also none of the issues have been bad enough to where my JGC wasn't drivable which makes a difference.

Good luck the Porsche seems like a great vehicle, and if you haven't made up your mind you may want to check out the BMW X5. Good luck with whatever you get.
