Porsche certainly knows how to make money, particularly on options.

I don't know how long this will last, but Porsche used to have a very strict set of standards for their dealers and more importantly their dealer service departments--unlike FCA. I had three minor service calls in the first 90 days on a new Porsche and got a free dinner and nice interview from the Porsche zone rep regarding exactly what I thought of the dealer's service dept. Wish Jeep had managed to
get this type of control over their dealers.

I mean think about it, how much does a comparably equipped Lexus, or BMW, or something like that cost compared to the Grand Cherokee? We are talking maybe atleast 15-20 grand? You can buy an entire other car for that cost. So when you are getting a lot of vehicle for the price compared to the others, then something probably isn't going to be as good...in this case its the dealership. So thats how I see it anyway. No clue if its true or not, but sounds reasonable lol.
For what its worth I have had no problems dealing with Jeep dealerships. Granted I have never had any issues, but for basic things they seem great so far.
Nne thing that I would miss would be the loaners. As mentioned above I have owned an Acura and bringing your car in for work or service was a treat, you get to leave in a nicer car than you brought in lol. That's a ploy to get you to buy something newer I'm sure as well as just an all around nice gesture, and I bet it works! The thing is I knew that going into it. When I purchased my Jeep I knew I wouldn't get to drive an SRT loaner when mine needed repairs... So really, there is nothing to complain about. When you go into a McDonald's, you know before going there that you wont get any service, the product wont be top notch, but you will get a lot for your money. Kind of the same I guess haha. Is there room for improvement? absolutely, but I think if they can get the dealerships to step things up a little bit then it would be a great all around experience.
Really can't agree. A 50K and higher vehicle puts you in territory where you are competing against BMW, AUDI, Acura, Lexus, etc.

You may be going into Mickey Dee's, but you are being handed a menu that exceeds that of TGIF's and in that price range expecting good service and decent quality is just part of what FCA seems to yet fail to understand.

When Chrysler pruned dealerships a while ago, they didn't prune based on quality of service--but rather chose for "dealer performance" aka the fast talking schlock artists who find em, feel em, sell em, forget em.

Apparently some Brit named appropriately "Diplock" may hold the first claim to fame, but not surprisingly for the Porsche haters, Ferdinand Porsche demonstrated the tactic before 1900.

Ahh, but what about a 120K SUV.

Or a quarter million dollar SUV that will go places that would have the Cayenne slinking away with its tail between its legs?

Price got nothing to do with it. And yes, some people DO rock crawl the things.

But ud like to say you have an suv right? U just can't compare the two...each vehicle designed to do different things...and if you ask me, Jeep def hits more check marks in the SUV class than other.

That's all fine, but your not the one buying the Porsche so who cares about YOUR check marks. Congratulate the man on his new Porsche and get over whatever notion YOU have about what an SUV should be.

Re: I am Out of Here

Good friend of mine had a company car that happened to be a Chrysler product. Can't recall what it was but he had nothing but trouble with it. Mostly electrical gremlins. The AC would work and then wouldn't. Power windows that would stop working but only in the up position. Radio would work sometimes. He was back to the dealer all the time.

When I told him I was getting a Jeep he said are you crazy. Wouldn't touch a Chrysler product if you gave it to him. And he only had that one bad experience.

Doesn't take much to sour us on a brand sometimes.

Re: I am Out of Here

I actually was thinking of doing the same thing, but it wasn't the purchase cost that was killing me - it was the running costs/repair costs. That's why my sights are currently set on the Tesla P85D/P90D - the initial cost is high but at least the running costs are low.

Every time I went with something like a luxury car, I find that when you're above 100k miles and something major breaks, getting hit with the question of "do I pay $7k-$20k to fix this, or do I give up?" starts to cause real anxiety. Consequently, they basically never make it above 120-130k miles. My Jeeps tend to make it to around 200k miles. But yeah, the dealer experience is bordering on intolerable and we're paying entirely too much to put up with this crap.

To the contributor analogizing to McDonalds - this is a $50k+ car. This better not be McDonalds. The "McDonalds" of cars is some $10-15k car that merely gets you from point A to point B at minimal cost. The JGC costs multiples of that, so why would we feel it is acceptable to get service that even Hyundai dealerships would feel embarrassed over?

Anyway, best of luck with Porsche, and personally I'd love it if you stopped in after spending some time with the new vehicle and and given us some comparisons. Everything from quality to dealer experience to actual costs.

Well, I guess if you insist on googling reality, there really isn't much hope for you.

Should I have used Bing or Yelp? Maybe that's where all the Porsche crawlers are hiding
