Re: I need head!

Took it to the dealer Thursday, they did a test, and cylinder #2 didn't hold the right pressure. Apparently the parts needed are on backorder. They will call in a few weeks and then supply me with a rental. I put my request in for a Wrangler. Hopefully after all is said and done there won't be residual problems.

Would love to hear from someone who has gone through the process and had it be successful.

Re: I need head!

We had the head job done and was without our Jeep for over 60 days. Had to raise hell to get a rental and eventually sued and settled out of court and now the Jeep is gone. Ahhhhh...peace at last.

Taking my 2011 GC in on Thursday to get #4 replaced.... will let you know how mine goes as well, and how long they tell me it will take.

Re: I need head!

well, what I have read about the problem is that it is a bad exhaust valve guide for #2 cylinder that gets worse over time. Hope this helps.puget

Re: I need head!

The replacement heads will be here Tuesday and I will be taking it in on Wednesday. They said it will only be 2 - 3 days and are giving me a non-minivan "Chrysler" rental product.

Re: I need head!

So ...

Here's how it went.

- Dropped off my WK2 yesterday morning at the dealership
- Enterprise rental picked me up, shuttled me to their office, and I left in a Jeep Compass rental (pales in comparison to the WK2, fwiw)
- Was told that the head replacement would possibly be finished by the end of the day
- They finished it mid-day today
- Picked it up this afternoon
- Drove about 1/2 mile before check engine light came on again and really odd braking behavior happened
- Did a 180 and took it right back to them
- Mechanic had not fastened the electronic throttle sensor fully on
- Since they resolved that, it seems to be working well

The throttle response seems to be a LOT better. I think I must have gotten used to a little bit of mushiness when I'd step on it. I don't know if it was because of the P0302 cylinder issue, but it will be interesting to see if my gas mileage improves with this fix. For reference, here's how my Jeep has historically done (as recorded with AccuFuel on my iPhone):

Re: I need head!

Dealer claims it's residual oil from the repair, did an undercoat "wash" to attempt to clean things up. I'm still seeing a bunch of oil in there and will probably have to just clean it out myself.

I'm still a little skeptical, but let them know I'd watch it over the next week.

Re: I need head!

What!...residual oil leaking for 2 days...from where.....don't make sense.
The only fluid that should ever leak from a vehicle is the condensation from the air-conditioner....What they do over fill it and oil is leaking out from the valve covers?

Re: I need head!

How do I find a dealer that doesn't end up doing a sloppy job with ANY repair they do!?

So, I took time and wiped out some of the oil just under the left-side cylinder heads this morning. After I drove home tonight, voila...fresh oil reappeared. Not a "residual" oil leak. I feel like my engine is adulterated now and will never be clean again. It's got the smell of hot/burning oil and who knows what nook and crannies it's gotten into. What is the deal?

Re: I need head!

Just scheduled another appointment for tomorrow morning. They'll be sending me away in a rental car again.
