I need head!

Made you look!

Dealership says #2 cylinder dropped on my 2011 GC w/25k on the meter. Motor started running ruff when stopping at Red lights then finally threw a CEL code#p0302. Service manager gave me a rental with a 2 month agreement.....is he trying to tell me it might take a long time to fix this? WTF!

Re: I need head!

Another good arguement for getting the extended warranty. Thats one option I will be getting for sure. I'll buy a lower trim level if I have to and buy the max care warranty.

Just too many possible issues with the WK2.

Re: I need head!

Service manager told me it's the 3rd pentestar this month needing a new head. I don't know the exact problem with the heads, maybe someone can tell me, but it seems looking around on different forums this is a BIG...BIG problem chrysler is dealing with. I'm wondering if once these motors start getting some miles on them they're going to start failing with more frequency or what. I hope not. Most seem to start with an engine tick that gets worse over time and finally throws the CEL light. I always thought my engine ticked louder than it should, but thought it was the norm.

Does anyone know what the actual problems with these heads are? Or if the problem is confined to motors built in a certain time frame?
My jeep was built on 4/30/11.

Re: I need head!

This is the exact problem I had with the 325. It was ticking badly and eventually BMW had to replace the head and entire top half of the engine. I never felt the engine ran as well after the repair and ended up getting rid of the "ultimate driving machine"

Re: I need head!

What did the spark plug look like ? Compression tests ? 302 just means a misfire and could be a lot of reasons.

Do think that running over 200F all of the time is too hot but just my opinion. (alloy engines are less tolerant of heat than iron).

ps Had another thought, alloy heads are less tolerant of heat than iron. Also normal practise is to get the hot exhaust gas out of the head as soon as possible. According to the specs, "The cylinder heads are made of aluminum, with ... integrated exhaust manifolds." Hmmmm.

Re: I need head!

I wonder if the engines are running too lean and raing the temps. I have seen aluminum cylinders with iron cylinder liners. Not sure if this is the case with the Pentastar?

I didn't see the plug but a leak down test was performed on all cylinders and the#2 cylinder was only at 35%.

Re: I need head!

That's awfully long to be out. Maybe call around to another dealer and see what wait time they can offer. Once all parts are in there's no reason it shouldn't take longer then a couple days, week tops.
