Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

By resetting the TCM you're allowing the jeep to learn your driving habits. Not someone else's. I don't know how long it takes, but someone reported a quick test of two driving methods and there was a difference.

To me I think the first thing I would do is unhook the ground cable.

I agree with you here...but one would think after 1100 miles the computer would have "learned" my driving habits.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

so... whether its A) and governed, Dumbed-down version of a factory preset or B) its an adaptation of its initial impressions from the lead-footed factory guys. Either way, a simple ecu reset clears this up and the message should be heard. ill be sure to let my dealer know. Maybe, just maybe someone who actually cares will pass this up the food chain and chrysler will addressthe issue.
Thanks for the home R&D!
That's what forums are all about.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I'm just wondering if there is something the dealer is supposed to do as part of prep that would avoid this?

That's what I first thought too...or somehow people on the assembly line are leaving certain functions in "calibration" mode or something.

Yes they do blink but puddle lights did not come on at all no matter what position they were in.

I figured it out, simply fold the mirrors in and then back out again and magic they now work again lol . So anyone with puddle lights not functioning after pulling the negative cable for the reset, just foldem in and back out and all is well.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

After driving my 2014 about 450 miles after resetting the fuse its back to the same old tricks again..rough shifting & non-existing shifting unless I really step on the gas from 1st to 2nd. Wondering if I should even try the battery disconnect.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

So resetting the fuse initially helped? Or no?

My wife hasn't mentioned the abrupt shifting, but I notice it. I'd pull the battery cable, but I don't want to lose all my settings for everything. I was thinking of just pulling the fuse, but if it doesn't have much of an effect,...

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Disconnecting the negative battery terminal does not affect any settings on the vehicle.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I think you'll like the result. The 1-2 upshifts are 100% smoother.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

For me, it's more the downshifts I'd like to correct. The upshifts are buttery, but that 3-2 and 2-1 can be rough. Hmmm. Maybe I should just leave it another 500 miles and see if it changes at all.
