Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Resetting the fuse did initially help, but after driving about 450 mi its back to rough shifting again. Its strange because at times the trans responds perfectly, then all of the sudden it is very un-repsonsive. There are a few times when it shifted so hard I thought someone had run into me from behind, not sure if it was up or down shifting at those times though. Also were a few times when I noticed trans would not shift into 8th gear while cruising on the freeway and my rpms were pretty high, so I used the paddle shift into 8th and the rpms came down as they should. Something is definately not right with our trans and I hope jeep figures it out.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I pulled the fuse to reset mine and I have driven around 100 miles since and the transmission it definitely smoother in all modes. It seems to hold gears longer and not shift so quickly into the higher gears. Down shifting is smoother also. I remember doing this on my FJ cruiser to try and fix a rough shifting issue but it didn't do much in that case (bigger issue). Hopefully the jeep stays smooth

Mine was better for a short while after this fix but reverted back which tells me one thing:
1) a hardware issue would not have been temporarily fixed with a reset of the software. This temporary fix confirms this is a software issue..meaning this is completely resolvable issue if Chrysler would hire competent software programmers to write better software (or write software that benefits smooth shifting and not a +2mpg EPA fuel advantage) Who wants to bet it will take several costly transmission failures that Chrysler has to pony up the dough for before they rewrite the software...

It won't get any better. I ran mine for about 2000+ miles and it never got better. The battery reset fixed it and my settings stayed the same. After another 2500+ miles I think the rough shifts are coming back slightly. Bad software. I have 5001 miles on mine now (and front end damage from an 18-wheeler re-tread).

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Last night I did a reset on the battery (disconnected for about 45 minutes), let the car idle for 5 minutes and then drove conservatively for about an hour.

The up shifts (1 to 2) are still a little rough, but down shifts (5 to 4 and 4 to 3) are pretty rough. Was hoping the reset would take care of the issue. Do you think I should try pulling the fuse? Or give the battery reset another try? A little disappointing given the amount we spent on the Jeep. (2014 GCL V6)

You may have other issues as I have not heard anyone mention down shifts from 5 to 4 and from 4 to 3 being rough. I have only heard of (and experienced) down shifts from 3 to 2 to 1 being rough (and some up shifts but not many).

I would try the battery reset (with brake depress) again as it can't hurt.

Definitely worth another try with the battery reset, but to tell you the truth, I never had any rough shifting issues in the upper gears before my reset.

Mostly it was the tranny not downshifting when lifting off the gas...and rough / hard shifts downshifting into 3rd, 2nd, and 1st when coming to a stop.

It's been almost 3 weeks now since my battery reset, and my tranny is still shifting 100% better than it was...still not perfect, but much better. It downshifts almost immediately now after taking my foot off the gas, and the clunking from rough downshifts into the lower gears is gone.

Now with that said, I'm still going to ask the dealership for an ECU update via the OBD II port when I take my 2014 GC in for it's first (and only) free oil change.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Pulled the F60 fuse last night and took it for a drive after. No more clunking when downshifting into first gear.

However, downshifts from 5 to 4 and 4 to 3 are still occassionally shifting too soon and the car will lunge forward for a second as some others have mentioned. Do you think this is part of the break in process? It doesn't happen consistently and seems to be happening much less since doing the resets.

I am thinking to leave it as is for now and maybe have the dealer look when it goes in for the first oil change.

Is there a ECU update for this? or are you just going to ask them if there is?

I thought I read somewhere on this board there was a TSB / computer update for rough transmission shifting?

In any case, I'm assuming that with the large amount of people that seem to have this same issue with their transnmissions, Chrysler would most likely have an update ready by the time I take my 2014 GC in for it's first oil change.

So yes I'll be asking if there is one.
