Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Those that have done a successful reset: Do you notice a difference in your gas mileage after the reset when using Eco mode?

I don't think you can accurately answer that question. You would need to have a way to properly measure your mileage before the reset. You would then have to replicate it after the reset to include wind, temperature driving style, traffic etc... Also, as most of these vehicles are new, as the motor gets more mileage on it, it changes (loosens up a bit) which can also change your mileage.

I would think that our mileage is about the same if not better since we aren't having to run sport mode or give it tons of gas to stay in 2nd or 3rd gear at low mph (previous ECO mode would shift to 4th by 25 mph or less but works better at staying in lower gears after the battery reset).

Anyway, I think only a scientist with an external gas tank can answer that question (or myth busters).

My rough shifting is back. I did both fuse and battery disconnects. What do you guys suggest I do next?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Mine wasn't really that bad to begin with, but after the fuse trick it is definitely smoother.

I do think there is some placebo affect because I was driving very, very moderately to try and keep it smooth in the reporogramming, and it is very smooth.

I still haven't done the reset but I have noticed in the 1000 miles or so we have driven since we got the vehicle back that it is now shifting what I would consider "normally." My wife and I both drive it, me more aggressively than her, and we do drive in different traffic types all the time. Wonder if the apparent randomness of driving styles and types actually helps?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Have had my 2014 Limited for about 10 days and am a new Jeep Garage member. Performed the F50 fuse reset and now when accelerating it is very much improved and would say that when going from 3-2-1 it's better but still a little rough. Thanks for the tips ! Will wait and see and how it goes over time.

Being a new Jeep Garage member can someone advise if there is a forum for common issues/problems/complaints for 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited that I can monitor and follow so that I can be aware of what they are ?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Mine went into the dealership for the tranny yesterday, and came out today. I've been pretty upset with its 1-3 gear performance, especially 2->3 while still cold which just started at 6800mi. They said "this is just the natural characteristics of the 8 speed for now." I noted that it was ultra smooth the first 500mi, to which the tech stated "for the first 500mi, the torque converter is in effect 'locked' into place, almost like safe mode, then it starts to work and the true characteristics of the tranny come out." I took that as them telling me they want it to run great while it might still be on the lot, then they DGAF. He said to give it more time, let me meld together and stated that a tranny update will prob happen at some point. The tech was a good guy, even put in a star case for me but it seems Jeep doesn't much care about my concerns. It's funny, I've read 2 separate car reviewers who had tranny trouble with the JGC-one a '13, one a '14. In both cases, Jeep immediately cracked the trannys open and solved the problem, I have found this is not the case AT ALL for those of us who actually paid for their cars...Should have stuck with the Ford Explorer I suppose...

First, don't believe everything you read. Second, if this is a problem that is popping up in multiple vehicles, they have to be sure they know why and come up with a workable fix. Even if they changed a part for the car being reviewed, they need to determine what caused it to fail. If something is failing at 500 miles, changing that part to complete the review is one thing. Doing the same for every customer and telling them to come back in 500 miles and we'll do it again doesn't really work.

Does Jeep care about problems like this? You bet they do. Do they specifically care more about your Jeep? Nope, in their eyes you're not that special.

That tech is blowing smoke about the torque converter. Natural characteristics of the 8 speed. Complete hogwash!!!! I would demand that they get on this and get it fixed! If it means a new tranny - so be it! If it means they need to send out someone from engineering - get it done. If it needs a software flash they should be getting you an ETA for that. Don't let them blow you off like that. I would have in as many times as it takes to get it lemon lawed if need be and let them know it! Tell the service manager you want to be placed in the "enhanced customer care program". Be nice of course but call them on the BS.
