I know. I would demand they do more thinking its a hardware issue, but so many others seem to have similar issues so maybe it's not...ill have to make a video of this hard shifting when it's still cold in the morning. It's pretty poor for a 42k vehicle. And as for what jeep thinks; if they care they sure aren't acting like it.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

A shifting problem that starts @ 6800mi on the veh when it was fine before indicates a problem that needs to be looked into. Don't make the mistake of thinking this is somewhat normal because some people on JG are reporting similar issues. There are 7000+ JGCs produced every week and the vast majority are not having these tranny problems or the dealer service depts. would be overwhelmed. JMT on the issue.

What makes you think that Jeep engineers are not looking into it. And how do you know how many people are having the problem, or won't be having it when they get more miles on the vehicles? A rough shift is something many people wouldn't run to the dealer about, but would wait to mention it at their first oil change.

I agree that things need to be taken care of. But the idea of demanding they do something now, when you have no idea what they are working on, just seems silly to me.

Um, not necessarily. Mine is having shifting problems but I have not taken it in yet. I know my dealer will have no fix and I don't need to be without my vehicle for a day or two just for them to tell me that it is "normal behavior". I would guess that others are doing the same or think the problem will get better with time.

By the way, I rented a 2013 RAM 1500 this week and the shifting was 100% smoooooth. Wish the GC could be as well.

Well, I don't want to start an ongoing argument about whether Jeep cares or not, but I don't know if that is true about "most people would only mention it an oil change" seeing as there have been at least 4 threads about this with multiple owners saying they demanded star reports about it, the first thread about the rough transmissions was started 3-28-13. In 3.5 months there hasn't been any updates from jeep, not a software flash, not even an admission that there is an issue, and I've called 2 dealerships, brought it in twice and called the corporate line.

I also called Jeep corporate again this morning-just to bitch and complain, if it's going to be a pain in my a**, I'm going to make it a pain in theirs as well. The woman was very nice and called the dealership, etc...but if I had to do a cliff notes on the convo it was "I understand your frustration but as of now there's nothing we can do for you."

If you think that the majority of JCGs have a tranny problem that would be a mistake. The few people on JG complaining of tranny issues are not representative of all JGC owners is all that I'm saying. FD12MEs case is not the normal rough shifting from day one that most are complaining about.
My tranny has been very smooth from day one like it should be. Good luck with yours. You should not assume there is no fix and no one should accept a response that "this is normal behavior". You should get tranny problems documented at the dealer ASAP.

GCL2014 is on a distinguished road
Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I recently did another battery reset, having done it one other time and also a F60 fuse pull. The Jeep is shifting more smoothly than before, but still is having noticeable inconsistency in the lower gears (downshifting too soon). I plan to ride it out until the first oil change to see if there are any differences or if there are any updates. I contacted the dealer and he said, "it's just how the 8 speed is as compared to the 5 speed". Makes no sense, but I will address it once the truck is in for an oil change. I can't be without the Jeep for the day, just to have the dealer say, it's normal.

I didn't say they aren't looking into it. I probably didn't state it well. What I'm saying is that the dealer service people should give him a proper response. Not "this is normal characteristics of the 8 speed tranny" or the torque converter doesn't function as it should till after 500 mi. Ridiculous!
The service people should acknowledge that the veh is not shifting correctly. If they don't know what the problem is they should be telling the customer that they will look into it and get back to him and actually follow up. Blowing the customer off and trying to confuse him with BS to make him think the veh is normal should not be accepted. If engineers are working to solve the problem they should explain that to him. Requesting a credible response to an obvious problem is not being unreasonable. That's what I meant to say. If I don't get that response from the service writer it's time to move up the chain is all I'm saying.

Ur right. We should not demand they look into it now because they should have perfected it before they did an early release...

I never said that I think that the majority of JCGs have a tranny problem. You read that into my statement. Maybe I should have more clearly documented what I was responding to.

You said that the majority of JGC owners are not having a tranny issue based on current service department loads. I was simply pointing out the false logic in that statement. It is possible for the majority of JGC owners to have tranny issues but not overwhelm the service departments and I am one example of that as I have the issue and have not taken it to the dealer.

I am not stating that the majority of the owners have or don't have tranny issues. I am just stating that it is possible for either to happen but not overwhelm the service departments. I deal with logic for a living and your statement is not logical (which does not mean that it is correct or incorrect which is why I used the phrase "not necessarily" rather than "incorrect").

Also, I am not assuming that there is no fix. I am basing that on others who have taken theirs in to the dealer and have been told there is no fix. I have yet to hear of someone who has had the tranny shifting issue fixed by the dealer/service dept.

Well, I have to stand by my logic as I think people that pay 40 grand + for a veh expect it to shift properly and if it doesn't they are going to be at the service writers desk.
However, based on the way this country is being run and the public response I may very well be wrong! I think my logic is reasonable. What's possible vs what's logical? Can of worms. lol
