The service people should acknowledge that the veh is not shifting correctly. If they don't know what the problem is they should be telling the customer that they will look into it and get back to him and actually follow up. Blowing the customer off and trying to confuse him with BS to make him think the veh is normal should not be accepted. If engineers are working to solve the problem they should explain that to him. Requesting a credible response to an obvious problem is not being unreasonable. That's what I meant to say. If I don't get that response from the service writer it's time to move up the chain is all I'm saying.
As is typical on the internet you chose the words that best suited you. The quote from the tech was;

"this is just the natural characteristics of the 8 speed for now."

Those last two words are very important.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

As I have said before I am having the same transmission issues as well. Has anyone that has taken it to the dealer and explained the issue been offered a reflash of the TCM with the current version of the TCM firmware? This may be a simple issue of corrupt firmware.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

There was talk about a firmware update in July. Has anybody heard if it is released, or what the actual release date will be?

I actually requested one and was told no, that is not possible unless there is an update.

Yes, words are important and the last part of that statement should have been "when it's malfunctioning" in place of "for now".

I think the service personnel used the words that they thought best suited their objectives. We're not going to look into it for you now. We don't know what's going on and we don't much care. You'll just have to live with it. Here's some BS to confuse you. Now go away.

Corporate and many service depts. have a communications problem with both it's customers and service depts. If like you say, "the engineers are working on a solution" that should be conveyed to service depts. and the customers. People just want forthright, truthful answers and concern about the issues and not necessarily an instant fix.

WOW, this is unbelievable! I work in the electronics field and have reloaded and /or updated firmware on many pieces of electronics including medical devices. In my mind this type of attitude and response is unacceptable.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

So I did the reset with the battery a few times and what I found is that how you dive the jeep very immediately after doing it seems to have a very noticeable effect on how it learns to shift. the first time I did the reset I just got in the car and immediately jumped on the highway at 75 mph. This didn't work out good, car went back to the stumbling shifting in 1-3. Then after the resetting again I tried idling for about 5 minutes (ac turned off)and then just easily driving around a neighborhood with a lot of stop signs for 4 or 5 miles. This worked by far the best and has remained the case for the last 1000 or so miles. Smooth now with very little stumbling between 1-3. Don't ask me why it worked this way I know it sounds stupid but all I can say is that it has been smooth for the last 1000 so I am not arguing or asking questions Hope this helps

I had the exact same experience (easy driving after reset) for about 2000 miles. Now it is starting to shift hard again. I guess I'll keep resetting it until they come up with a fix.

Amazing what happens when you follow instructions.

From post #1

" 4) Then I just reconnected the negative side, reinstalled the cover, put the passenger seat back down, and started the engine...letting it idle for about 5 minutes, then took it on a short 15 minute run around town. I DID NOT LOSE ANY UConnect settings, radio pre-sets, or any other interior settings."

Yes agree I didn't think that much about it at first figured a cable pull and that's all that mattered but there really is something that seems to be learned or set in those very first few miles and minutes. Hope it stays like it has for the last 1000 or so

Question for GCLimited:
When you did this gentle driving after the reset, did you drive in regular mode or eco?
