SUBJECT:
Flash: Transmission Shift Enhancements

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
i. Harsh second gear to first gear/first gear to second gear shifts while using the paddle shifter when the vehicle is not moving.
ii. Inconsistent and/or harsh upshift quality during light throttle/low speed upshifts.
iii. Inconsistent and/or harsh downshifting quality while coasting down.

REPAIR:
Reprogram the TCM with the latest software
Thank you Milous. I have printed the TSB and will call the dealer next week to get this done. I have been waiting for it, the down shift in low speed (3-2-1) really feels like rear ended.

REPAIR: Reprogram the TCM with the latest software
Just curious, the repair indicates reprogram the TCM with the latest software. What software level is that? When we discuss the UConnect flash - we talk 13.15.4, 13.19.0. My dealer, less than 2 weeks ago, truly believed that 13.15.4 was the latest release when clearly 13.19.0 had been out for at least 3+ weeks at the time. How can I be sure that they have the latest software to reprogram the TCM - does this work differently?

That is for the UConnect software. We don't know what the Transmission updates are as this is the 1st one for the 2014

I know, that is my point, how do we know that the dealer has the latest update for the TCM? No software version or level is mentioned? Even if it is the first update to 2014 - how do they know they have the update?

The updates are loaded using the Chrysler Wi-tech diagnostic system. When loading updates the tech and or the system checks automatically for the latest update for the module in question. In this case the TCM module. Just reference TSB 21-007-13 dated 8/3/13 when you take it in.

Thanks fore the background - appreciate it!

By the way, since taking the battery ground off and resetting the transmission about 600-700 miles ago, the transmission seems to be getting better and better all the time. I no longer need to shut down Eco mode to get a good ride.

Thanks for everyone's advice!

I was at the dealer on Thursday and he tried convincing me my 13.10 software was the latest. Many are still used to getting cd updates from jeep. I told him to go back to the system and get 13.19

Took him 15 minutes but they figured it out.

As for the tcm update, I guess I was a couple of days too early. Just glad they got an update out.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Concerning the Hemi rough shifting which may not be as wide spread an issue as the V6 but is still there. The shuddering/stumbling shift between 1-2-3 is only evident to me in stop and go traffic or after extended driving when coming off a stop light/sign. So I was watching the trans temp today and noticed that when the trans temp hits about 200F is when I see this issue, not saying there is a direct correlation but that is how it appears. Has anyone else with the Hemi noticed this?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I had this TSB applied over the weekend and this morning was the first time commuting in stop and go traffic. Overall, it is much better but still not 100% in my opinion. The shifting up 1-2-3 and down 3-2-1 is improved on the road from red lights and stop signs ect. I still experience a little bit of the clunk from 1-2 in stop and go traffic as if the Jeep wants to shift to second but then I let my foot off the gas and it gets confused....but much better than before.

I also never tried to fuse/battery pull yet. I might give this new software a couple hundered miles then try the battery and fuse reset to see if that combined with the new TCM software is any better.

Has anyone got this done yet?
