Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

So is there any way for me to verify what version of the software my vehicle currently has? I'm headed in again in a few days to get my exhaust replaced (rattle mentioned elsewhere in these forums) and I want them to check this again. It'll be my 3rd time there in as many weeks since I bought this thing and I want to be absolutely sure.

That was my concern from my previous posts - the TSB doesn't show any software level/version. As a technology professional, I don't understand how one can be sure what version the dealer has or doesn't have. I suspect the best advice would be to wait a couple of weeks and hope all the dealers get the proper download.

I e-mailed my dealer yesterday and provided the TSB number as well as the .pdf of the TSB. I have an appointment on Friday for something else and asked that they apply this TSB while I'm there. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

According to the TSB:

THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 14.01 OR HIGHER TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE."

I know that's not the TCM software version, but it verifies that the dealer's equipment is up to date with the latest flash for the TCM.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Called customer care to find out y everyone was saying my vehicle didn't qualify...@ 1st I got the runaround from them too...it has to be a specific vehicle only blah blah blah. I finally persuaded him to read the TSB. He was very reluctant and @ first couldn't find it. The he concluded the same thing as 2 dealers did for me...my vehicle DID NOT qualify for the TSB. Then more drama, he said it was b/c my build date didn't match, then he said my tranny wasn't the same blah blah blah. Finally he realized that my car met all the criteria after researching my VIN. Then He called my dealer and told him about the TSB.

I'm not sure what is causing the Chrysler systems to exclude our jeeps from this campaign, but I recommend calling customer care so they can help bridge the gap with the dealers and identify we are getting turned away. Also, not sure y Chrysler and the dealers are having a hard time finding the TSB in their systems. I have ANOTHER appointment set up for Monday morn. I'm not going to get too excited about it this time.

Exact same thing happened today to me at my dealer.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Members of this forum have some incredibly good inside information thanks to Will, Milous and others. We see what is going on cutting edge with our particular vehicles. Dealers are looking at a lot of issues with many different vehicles, so they aren't as focused on our particular problems as closely as we'd like them to be. I'm not saying it's right, but this is just the way it is. Also, I think a lot of service managers aren't keeping their diagnostic equipment updated as well as they might be able to, so that can put some of this time lag we've been seeing into play. The wheels of industry grind slowly, so patience is a virtue here.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Called my dealer and asked them to check my VIN to see what TSBs needed to be applied and they said they were too busy to do that. Went to the dealer after work and asked them to verify the TSB for my Jeep (printed the TSB) for the transmission and they said they could check but they couldn't just check all TSBs for my Jeep as they would have to manually check each part on the Jeep to see if it needed something. What? Crazy.

I told them about the extra metal under the steering that can come loose and rattle and the TSB for removing it and he said they won't do that unless the customer complains about a rattle.

I told him the whole reason I was calling to check the VIN to see if they knew about the TSB for the transmission is that it had been reported that some dealers were not up to date or aware of the TSB for the transmission. He said they still could not simply check the VIN for needed work on my Jeep.

I got nothing done.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

took my jeep in today to get latest uconnect, fix my parking brake (isn't engaging), and get a wash.

log on to see if any other updates I should ask for while its in the services bay... bingo this TSB. I request the transmission TSB ...

"I can't fix anything without a complaint"

I say: shifts are clunky from 1st to 2nd and 3rd.

"did you call last week about this? this conversation seems eerily familiar."

DUH! There are thousands of '14s on the road in NY with shit transmission software.

Ignorant dealers are unfortunate byproducts of the old dealership systems... I wish we had factory service centers like TESLA.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I just called another dealership and told them I have a TSB to address a rough shifting transmission on my 2014 GC and wanted to verify that my vehicle is eligible (run VIN please) and to verify that they have the update in their system. The service guy asked if I was talking about some type of recall. I said no, I am talking about a TSB. He said that they could probably reset the parameters to help the transmission re-learn the driving habits. No, I said there is a TSB to address the shifting issues.

He said I would have to schedule an appt, bring it in and have the techs plug it in to see if it needed anything. He could not verify that I needed it or that they had the update without having my vehicle. No wonder so many people are wasting their time with appointments only to find out that the dealer is not up to date. What is wrong with these people? Is this the best system Jeep could come up with to address issues?

Anybody know if the witech 14.01 software became available when this TSB was issued? If so the odds of the dealers upgrading their tools as soon as a TSB is issued is probably pretty low considering they don't seem to know much about tsbs. How does a dealer update their witech software?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Just got a call from my dealer. Supposedly they completed the flash from this TSB. I'll go pick up the Jeep in a bit. They had it all day yesterday and finally got to it right before closing last night. I'll let you guys know if I notice anything with the shifting and/or if they actually did anything to the transmission.

The reason I say supposedly is because it seems like I might be the first one of all of you to actually have a dealership attempt this update.

Considering the extra metal TSB, this TSB is marked as RRT. Dealer must fix it without customer's claim. Tell them this is RRT. They are supposed to apply this TSB even for unsold vehicles!!
