Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I had an appointment to have this done yesterday afternoon (8.6.13). Took a print out of the TSB with me and showed them exactly what I was referring too. They didn't seem to have any issues finding it and the work order specifically references the TSB #. Still, after hearing everyone else claim that their dealer's service dept had no record of said TSB, I question what they actually did. The transmission does seem to sift differently, and I haven't put on enough city miles since to accurately assess the performance, but so far it doesn't seem much better, just different. My initial observation is that when the ECO mode is off, it performs closer to how it used to perform in sport mode. Reving pretty high in gears 2-4 before settling down at gear 5. This is with moderate throttle. I'll watch closer for the low throttle gear 1-3 clunking when I go grab some lunch.

I wonder if there's a "re-learning" period after this new reflash...

I was the same way. I went in last Friday (8/2) for an oil change and the uConnect update (to 13.19 I think). The night before I came across this TSB and brought it to my dealers attention when I dropped the car off. They said they would "check it out". After 3 hours of waiting my car was ready. I agree with your assessment - the drive wasn't much better, just different. Okay maybe slightly better but not what I was expecting. After I left my uConnect version # did not change after they said they updated it. They also never reset my oil life guage. That makes me thing they didn't do the TSB for the tranny correct either! I left a not to pleasant survey review and got a voicemail from the service manager that same day haha. Didn't call him back though. I might just try a 3rd Jeep dealer now.....

My guess is they didn't do a thing to your vehicle.

They definitely did something to mine. But I donno if it is much better as far as the rough shifting goes. Just different. There's less of a dead spot in the first three gears and it seems to figure out which gear to choose when passing a lot quicker. Just one days worth of observations for me.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Spent a little more time city driving since the flash.

The good - As I stated earlier, under moderate to heavy throttle, it seems to hold the gears a little longer (not as long as sport mode) which is nice. 3 and 4 really hang on for a while before moving to 5.

The bad - I was able to replicate the low throttle up shift clunks, but not nearly as often. I really had to brake/go/brake/go in the parking lot a few times to feel it. That's good. What is annoying is that now it seems to clunk down from 4 through 2 when braking fairly hard from about 40-45mph. I'm not talking about emergency braking but I'm also not gently rolling to a stop. You can feel it lurch and almost makes me want to push the brake down harder to compensate.

These observations are all with ECO mode off and very unscientific. If anyone experiences the same, or different, I'm curious to hear.

Still love the vehicle over all.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Had mine done this morning so it's a limited window to analyze the update but thus far I am much happier. Holds gears longer, smoother shift between gears and most importantly, the downshifts are much much smoother. I haven't had a klunk yet--but you can still feel it pull a bit (not as bad) when it downshifts. Perhaps this is a characteristic of an 8 speed, perhaps there's still a bit of tuning to do. All in all, I'd say Jeep got us 85% of the way there on this software update--There's just some deails that still be need to be ironed out. I just hope it stays smoother--mind you, most of us started off with ultra smooth shifts and somewhere between 300-500mi, they went bad...hopefully this is not the case here.

Now, with my rough tranny in the morning from 2nd-3rd before it heats up....the jury is still out.

TSB mentions build dates, can dealers get that info from a VIN? If you have a build sheet it's listed on that do can show dealer TSB applies to you.

It's also right on the plate in your drivers door.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

My dealer found the updates for the Nav / Tranny and applied it last Friday, drove it over the weekend, seems better in normal traffic, however, today driving to work in heavy traffic I can still hear the loud clunks and feel the vehicle jerk forward when shifting.. A bit better but not there yet.. Tks...
