Agreed. I wouldn't even say it's much better. It's just different. It located which gear to be in a little quicker now. Still shifts crappy from 1-2 and 2-3.

I think there is. After putting a few hundred miles on it, I'm getting a little clunk from 5->4. Mehh. I think that instead of them doing this peace-meal (flash that only addresses 1st-2nd-3rd) they need to sit down and come up a whole new software packet. But it was a step in the right direction at least...

I agree it's a bit better but not all the way there yet.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

My '08 Enclave had a number of tranny flashes. First one wasn't much of an improvement, second one was a huge step forward. My service manager talked me out of the third one, and from what I learned, that ended up being a good idea. Only time will tell. I'm not disappointed in the way mine shifts from the factory, so I'm not in any hurry to get the available flash. You guys can be the guinea pigs.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

What to hear something weird?

My transmission has been SLOWLY improving over time (I now have about 4,000 miles on my 2014 V6 Limited and have NOT had the TSB performed yet...waiting for my first oil change), but I still get the occasional rough downshift into the lower gears...and a slight "slip" when accelerating from a stop into a 90 degree left turn. I also have noticed that the hotter the weather, the rougher it would downshift.

Anyway, about a week ago in a rain storm, I put my Jeep into 4WD and 4WD low for the first just to see how things work, and guess what...the tranny shifts even better now! The shifting at times is now the smoothest and seamless it's ever been! How weird is that?

I still plan on getting the tranny TSB done, but I just wanted to mention this observation.

Interesting so you think the 4 low engaging has had a lasting effect on the shifting?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I'd like to add to this that at this time I'm not planning on getting the tranny flash done. My Jeep never shifted particularly harsh, and it feels smoother now than when it was new. I have about 2,500 miles on the odo, and rarely shift out of eco mode. I have had it in 4WD low a number of times, and it shifts into low range more smoothly every time, and the shifting in low range is smoother too. I do a lot of city stop and go driving, and I think the adaptive TCM is picking up on my driving habits just fine. I'm sure a lot of this is a function of how I drive, so I understand that others might be having a completely different experience. The TSB will always be there, so if things change, I'll reassess the situation.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Not sure if it's just me but since I got the Tranny SW update, I notice I'm getting 100KM less per tank. I did more highway driving this time around so may get even less when I add more city driving to the mix.. Also notice the clunks are louder with the update but less often..

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I've mentioned before about tranny updates to my '08 Buick Enclave. My MPG went down with each update, and one of the reasons my service manager recommended I didn't get the third update was because of a pretty substantial hit to MPG. I think the original TCM software is geared to MPG because of government regulations, and manufacturers tweak it to keep owners happy, but to get better performance a hit to MPG is quite possible.

Is it really that different after the flash?

Thumbs down Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Change my Evic to show the Average Milage per tank after filling up today, prior to the update, it showed and average of 825KM per tank, now, 709KM.. Sucks, since it cost $130+ to fill up with Regular Unleaded in my region and really no major shifting difference with the Tranny update.

Well, now that the EPA (or equivalent) analysis is done, guess they can allow it to shift a little more aggressively.
