Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Folks,

Just curious, did anyone who had the Tranny update on their 2014 JGC notice a obvious drop in mileage (MPG), reason I ask is, I’m trying to figure out if it was the Tranny SW update that cause my Jeep to go from over 800KM per tank to under 700 or is it something more with my vehicle.

Thanks..

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I have found that our gas mileage is about 5 to 7 % better. I think it could be from not having to modify our driving around the transmission. Who knows with these things sometimes. Now averaging about 21mpg (mix of city and hwy)

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

GCL2014, thanks for the response, so an average of 21 mpg x approximately 25 Gallon tank is roughly 525 miles. That is the equivalent to 844 KM per tank. That is exactly what I was getting with a mix of city / hwy driving prior to the tranny update. Now with very similar city / hwy driving I’m getting 680 KM per tank. Can’t explain why I lost 150 KM (90Miles) plus per tank.... Very Strange…

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I have a 2014 jeep grand Cherokee limited , It was making a clunking noise when I go up a steep incline. I took it to the deal and they said that is normal, wtf!! They installed a tcm, transmission control module in it and it seems to run better. I have to give it a test when I head to the mountains in a couple months.

So far I have to agree with GCL on the increase of MPG since the transmission flash.

I got the update done about a month ago. I'm pleased with what they accomplished. However, i still have a real bad clunk and hard 1-2shift when coasting (multiple times a drive i hear it b/c of traffic and my incline driveway)...it feels like i have committed vehicular homicide on something in the road. Can you describe your clunking and how much it helped thus far? I just despise going to the dealer. So don't want to go and get the runaround like i did for the tranny flash. Thanks

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

The clunk i heard was like a gear locked up and it seemed to jerk me back in the seat. I only experinced this driving in the Mountains of Carolinas. I will be headed that way again in a couple months , hope I dont hear and feel that again. I will let you know how my jeep is doing , take care.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I've got a 2014 JGC Limited. I brought it in for it's first oil change at around 3800 miles. My screen was flashing once in a while too, so I mentioned that. The quick - they tried to do some flash - the whole nav screen fried. It was dead. So I had to bring it back a week later to have the whole screen/radio unit replaced. During that time, I noticed some harder shifts....more specifically while up shifting into the 3rd gear. Also upon coming to a stop, the final down shift into 1st jerked the truck. I had them look into that. They did it and told me they "flashed the transmission" as well. It was fine for a few days (about 100 miles) but then it came back. Last week I brought it back in at 5000 miles because the tranny was getting annoying. They flashed it again and it was a bit better for 100 miles. I had my friend who is the service manager drive it to work one day and he noticed the tranny issues. He told me they called Jeep/Chrysler corporate or whatever....and they said that they have heard of this issue, but there isn't a fix yet. Apparently it's not only in Jeeps...some Chrysler 300's are having similar issues too.

So....with that being said, does anyone on here have a solid fix? Or at least recommend anything. I personally have yet to pull my negative terminal off, not have I attempted the fuse pull. I dont' even know where the fuse is as I've never looked.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've driven my 2014 JGC Limited about 2,000 miles since I pulled the negative cable and I don't have the flash update yet. The tranny is so much better than it ever was - so I really recommend pulling the negative cable, idle the vehicle for 5 minutes and then going on a nice calm ride for 3-5 miles - all with the default Eco mode on. It's really changed the complete ride for me - it's pretty good.

With that said, I'm getting the tranny flash and the hvac flash this Saturday morning - so I'm a little nervous that I'm playing with fire on the tranny side of things.

Regarding the downshifting in general - I've never owned or driven a vehicle that has downshifted like this. It's taking me a real long time to get used to this. In all my previous vehicles, I just take my foot of the gas and the vehicle will coast and appear to slow down per normal physics, as if I put the vehicle in neutral. So this is very different behavior than I'm used to.

Hope this helps.

OK, so pull the negative cable. Got it... (How long did you keep yours off?)

Then re-install it and idle for 5min...?

Then drive a few miles....?

The way that was written (call me crazy) is that the vehicle was idling and driving with the cable pulled. Could you please clarify for me? Thanks!!!!!

I left the cable off for 30 minutes. Then re-attach, then idle, then drive.
