It sounds like you have some other problem going on as I think I have only ever seen one other person here with that transmission and what you are describing. Hopefully your dealer can look into the issue further but I don't think there are any shift updates coming for the SRT.

As for being at nearly Idle and in 8th gear, yes that is exactly how ECO mode works on the 6.4. If you want it to run the gear ranges higher, turn off Eco on startup.
Well, that is good news to my ears then! ~ The "clunk" ish' sounds maybe like transmission "slop" during the downshifting process. However still being a brand new transmission I'm not ruling out anything at this point. It's very similar to what the V6's are doing, just it's happening to me in a totally different gear. ( 6-5, and 5-4 ) - Predominately happens during the 6-5 downshift, then a nice ol' quick big "CLUNK", from the rear upon the downshit. I can feel it in the floorboard as well.

Audibly, assuming the possibility now it could be the differential (being a 4x4) and I'm only able to re-create this when slowing down and 99% of the time, during deceleration. The dealership did confirm that I had all the updates and there was nothing else they could do to fix it (atm anyway). Still I will stay on top of this as IMO, it shouldn't be doing this.... on ANY Jeep...

~ ECO mode defaults to the OFF position in the SRT and I've yet to utilize it except on the highway a few times.

In any case, I do enjoy the JGC SRT a lot better than my '11 CTS-V , Coupe --- having a baby so I had to let it go.. It had its fair share of gremlins as well... lol

Oh, and this does happen with the ECO OFF ***

~ If you read my post above , ( not being rude, just assuming you read it backwards ) --- Quote-> "Even with ECO off, I can be in 8th gear doing 40 mph, which should only happen in ECO mode. I'm barely at an idle when matched with that speed and gear! It should honestly be at the least be in 7th gear!"

Thanks for the heads up on this and letting me know it is a totally different problem/issue. I'm glad you know a lot about this. It's so close to what the V6's are doing and "some" of the V8's, from read on the other forums; just in a different gear and during the downshifting process. The 3-2, 2-1 stops are very quick, but I expected that, figuring the SRT was programmed differently than most vehicles; as the dealership and tech's advised.

As they say, just turn up the radio real loud! Glad I have the Audio Pkg. ~ lol

The clunk/bump sounding coming from the rear ( or behind me the driver ) is still present. I haven't driven it enough to see if it will work itself out, seriously I doubt it will until Chrysler comes up with a proper "software" update for this 8 speed Tranny. More than anything it is annoying and hoping its not causing any "long-term" type of damage. My build date was 9-15 -- Took it to the dealer already, which is sad in itself when you have 400 miles on a brand new 69,000k vehicle.
They said that the "SRT" had a more aggressive shifting patterns. I just shook my head as that has nothing to do with a "clunk" sound. I haven't driven it enough yet to determine any other shifting issues, but I do agree with everyone that it also has a very "Rapid" downshift/coast and the 2-1 shift can be almost "tricky". Even with ECO off, I can be in 8th gear doing 40 mph, which should only happen in ECO mode. I'm barely at an idle when matched with that speed and gear! It should honestly be at the least be in 7th gear!

I also read where another user said it could be the driver , lol --- but I know its not me. I owned a 2008 Lexus IS-F ( which had a 8 speed btw ) and it completely makes this one feel like junk, IMO. I hope someone at Chrysler will figure out the "proper" parameters for our JGC's 8 speed tranny's! --- I received it with 10 miles on it, so it could be possible in its "early" stages of learning that it was "confused", if you want to call it that.

Maybe the battery reset or fuse reset, etc. will work, but for how long really since some reported now its coming back?, regardless. Some report it has indeed made it worse, but a majority concur it helped...
~Yep, its frustrating - I like the JGC-SRT, but the tranny I can tell over time is going to get extremely annoying in stop-n-go traffic.

PLEASE FIX THIS CHRYSLER! You are going to start running off new customers who are supporting a U.S. mfg. vehicle! This is unacceptable in any vehicle, let a-lone a 70K dollar one! My 2006 Mazda 3 that has 140K miles on it shifts better than this JGC-SRT!!
My 5.7 had a rough stumbling 1-2-3 upshift when I first got it. It showed the worst in stop and go traffic. What worked for me was the battery cable reset and then just driving it a few thousand miles, it smoothed out just took some time. Try the battery cable reset and then a slow drive around the neighborhood. Be patient and drive a few thousand miles unless its just terrible then take it back to dealer.

Silvermax has some good advice.

He has been here a while and I respect his take on it as well.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Had the flash update done on the transmission, shifting is smother execpt when vehicle is cold and it shifts from 1st to 2nd, this gear change is very harsh. Once the vehicle is warm it works better.

Talked to the dealer about the vehicle jerking on startup and was informed that the problem has been reported by other customers and that the factory was aware of it but it is the normal operation of the vehicle. To me this is totally unacceptable performance for a new vehicle.

I've been contacted by a factory rep referincing the problem and have been told that the factory and the dealership are working on the issue. Sounds like BS to me, going to contact a lemon law attorney and go at the problem that way.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I figured I'd report since the latest transmission/dcm updates my vehicle has been much better accelerating though sometimes gears seem to hold longer than they should IMO. The major issue I'd cite is still the slight lunge/surge when coming to a stop, seems to happen when I'm almost stopped or stopped though maybe not as noticeable as pre-update. Hopefully they are still working on the transmission software and a further update will happen.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I too would like to report in, and I have to say since getting the recent tranny reflash...AND disconecting the negative battery cable for a couple hours has worked wonders for my rough shifting transmission (the reflash alone did not work for me). It's been over a month now, and my V6 shifts like a pro...smooth as glass...up & down, even in ECO mode where it spends 99% of it's time in. The only issue I'm having currently is after I first start the vehicle up and put it in gear, it sticks in first a little too long, but returns to normal after 5 seconds or so...and only for that first time.

This was the last straw for me when it came to owning this 2014 GC Limited V6 4x4, and as long as the tranny continues to shift smoothly, I'll keep her...but I have to say that the initial ownership period with this vehicle was a bitch because of all the problems I've had with it.

No Offense to you and your thoughts but I have to say Good Luck with that Lemon law try on the transmission as I will not work. This is a brand new transmission and is bound to have some issues out of the gate. Is it really that big of an issue for you? The vehicle is under warranty and if the transmission fails, you get a new tranny. My vehicle does the same thing but I'm not whining about it. Deal with it for now until the next update happens. Every manufacturer has some type of issue that people don't like, but they still keep buying them. Just stay calm and an update will come. If we didn't want the possible issues then we shouldn't of bought it when we did and waited until next year.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

How is it that folks with build dates in September are still having transmission issues - kinda unreal no? I mean I'm not expecting to pick up my JGC until next Spring - but is there any expectation that these issues will have been resolved by then. I know it's only a small fraction of vehicles, but wouldn't you think after all the problems they had with the transmissions, that that would be a major source of QC focus?

I just want to know if attorneys specialize? Do I have to call one attorney if my car shifts rough, and a second one if my car isn't cool enough when I remote start? I would think a paralegal could handle it if my wipers left streaks on the windshield.

Maybe I just need a good mental health clinic so I can learn to deal with little problems on my own.

I was hoping the suspension flash might sneak that in, but no such luck.
But now, at least, when the Jeep raises from exit mode, not only does the raising light stop flashing, but you get the "Vehicle Has Achieved Normal ... " message in the EVIC.

As for the attorney you are recommending, I hope he has Supreme Court experience.
