So has anybody tried this on other years? 2012 for example.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Now my later build (12/13) 2014 GC Overland 4x4 V6 is having transmission issues..hard downshifts into 1st gear.

Damn it...Now My 2014 Overland Has A Transmission Issue!

Maybe a battery disconnect will fix it...fingers crossed.

...or maybe it's time to say goodbye to Chrysler products for good!

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I took mine in for the Brake booster recall last Monday, and they told me there were a few "updates" one of them being the transmission reprogram. It shifts smoother now especially on downshifts in sport mode. Mine wasn't as bad as some people are describing, but this update definitely makes it smoother overall and it's also better in ECO mode, it holds gears longer. Mine is an early 3/13 build.

Must be the driver Mine still runs great.

Occasionally I will step on it and it won't down shift immediately.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

A battery reset (disconnect) did nothing for the hard downshifts into 1st coming to a full stop when cold.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Get the transmission TSB done. I had mine done yesterday and the difference is night and day. The shifts are now smooth and seamless and has completely transformed the car.

There is no transmission TSB available yet for my later built (12/13) Overland.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I have heard of people on this forum who have used a TSB that has relevance to the actual cause even if it is not in the date field or particular model. It is worth a try to talk to your service department about it. You may get lucky.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Just brought back mine (laredo 4x4) from its 6mo service (early 2013 build), they did say there was a TSB on the transmission but I don't recall reading one here, and uconnect still stuck on 4.13

It's still holding 4th gear in Eco (haven't tried sports mode)
The shifts are smoother but "jerking" in between 3rd and 4th gear

For 430$ (yes Mackay's mining tax) I got caltex,

Any way to find out whether they actually did the wheel bal. or just "forgot" to do so?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

WOW, GCLIMITED, Thank you...I have a 2014 GC SRT, and have been very upset with the operation of the 8-speed trans....It was always feeling like the brakes were being somehow applied, every downshift, and every time I would take my foot off the gas pedal, the vehicle would almost come to a stop, even going downhill with out touching the brake pedal. this didn't happen in neutral, only when in gear.
I was pretty skeptical of this battery disconnect having any real chance of fixing or improving the trans shifting, but damm I was wrong. I did the thirty minute disconnect you recommended and the trans now has begun shifting as a normal transmission should....and I didn't even have to screw with the dealership and all their normal excuses, like thats normal, or they all do that! I've work on cars, airplanes, boats and motorcycles for about 50 years, and I never thought that this would really make a difference, thankfully I was dead wrong....Thanks for your post

All right, your post convinced me to try it tonight. I have the exact same problem. Until I get into at least 3rd or 4th gear, releasing the accelerator is tantamount to stepping on the brake. Driving in a parking garage is a hoot when the vehicle lurches simply because I let go of the accelerator while it's in 2nd gear... and I have to rev up to power my way down the ramp.

I have recently taken to coasting down hills in neutral because the vehicle would slow itself down otherwise, whereas it will accelerate if in neutral.

We will see.

Good Luck RoadKill, hope your results will be as good as mine were with this, I'm still surprised that it worked
