Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

unfortunately this appears to be a "temp fix" as the tranny is in it's relearn mode. after x amount of time/mileage it comes back.

Even if that's the case, the procedure should be able to be repeated; furthermore, it implies that a software patch can fix the problem.

Of course, it's incredibly ironic that a system would perform better before it "learns". That's not a passing grade.

I feel its still good news, as pointed out, it means that there is nothing major wrong, and a software fix should become available to address this permanently, also depending on how one drives, maybe it will relearn differently from what it had previously learned or stored..... I guess I will just have to see what happens, but again I feel that a solution can't be far off, as Chrysler gets more and more complaints

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Well, that was absolutely amazing... thanks for the tip! It's like having a brand new EcoDiesel... no hanging onto low gears, no immediately dragging if the accelerator is released. It's so nice to again be able to coast without having to shift into neutral. It seems ironic that it "trained" itself to act that way in Eco mode. I mean, it did it in Sport mode too, but that isn't ironic.

I'm looking forward to better in-town mileage.

I don't care if the transmission fails to train properly. If it does, I will just pull an Edge of Tomorrow and put a bullet in the brain of the improper programming and let it try again the next day. "You have failed the training! *BANG!* *splat*"

How long are people getting decent performance before having to reset the transmission again?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

This is strange, people say that the Battery disconnect, put the trans into it's learning mode....Perhaps....My SRT shifted badly from day one with only 16 miles on it when purchased, So was it not also in it's learning mode???? and it continued to shift badly until I had over over 1500 miles on it and finally tried the reset, since then it has been fine, only several days now so far....but I'm wondering why is it fine now, in the alleged learning mode, when it shifted so badly in what also should have been it's learning mode, before trying the reset?
I think this is going to work, I don't think its going to go back to it's poor shifting.
I'm wondering if when they roll these vehicles off the assembly line, if they don't put them through a short but harsh operational test, that perhaps causes the transmissions to learn a bad shifting pattern that stays with the vehicle until something like this battery reset removes it...just a thought?
If my trans returns to it's old bad behavior I will post about it

Either tranny, the 845RE and the 8HP70, supposedly can take up to 6,000 miles to fully "learn" your driving habits so maybe resetting within that range is problematic as it never fully learns. Just a thought.

Is there a way to turn off the learning mode?

I reset mine for the first time at 7,500. Massive improvement that corrected the slow decline it was exhibiting.

When I drove my vehicle off the dealer lot for the first time I was happily surprised by how smoothly it shifted. I could barely tell when the gears were changing. 6,000 miles later and I was yelling at the vehicle to let go of 2nd gear, having the thing lurch if I released the pedal while going less than 30 mph, etc.

It's too "smart" for its own good. I would keep it in fresh learning mode forever if I could. A sporadic clunk in 5th is nothing compared to what it's like when it has "improved by learning your driving style" (*cough*).

Did we ever determine which fuse to pull? I'd rather not repeatedly disconnect the battery terminal.
