Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Hmm keen to no this to if pulling the fuse works as good as disconnecting the battery , I am FKN feed up with my transmission and I'm sick of asking the service manager too , trust me it won't be long for me to start taking drastic measures no matter how long it takes me ...

Interestingly enough, since being reset my transmission has "learned" to jerk its way back into 1st gear. It lurches every time now, never did it once before. It's so nasty I have taken to dropping into neutral from 2nd in order to avoid it.

Time to reset again and hope it "learns" better next time.

when I got my 2014 v8 in april of 2103 there were some shifting issues( not bad but there) and what I found was that doing the cable reset and then driving slowly through neighborhoods with stop signs for 5 miles or so made a difference in the learning vs immediately jumping on the highway at 75 which didn't give a good result. with the early v8 it seemed that every thing worked its way out by 2000 miles and been great ever since. some of the v6s seem to have on going issues. ayway you might try that, good luck

Thanks. I will give that a try. Pulling the fuse and waiting 20 minutes ameliorated the issue for only a mile or two before it started lurching. It seems TSB 21-026-14 specifically addresses this for my EcoDiesel.

However, the dealer service department schedules firmware application service appointments for 2+ weeks out. I'm thinking of trying a different dealer.

im not sure how much the fuse pull vs cable pull makes but may try the whole cable pull and leave it off for a little while. that will reset everything, as all the modules seem to do a lot of talking with each other and sometimes things that you wouldn't think would make a difference do. maybe good to do it after the TSB and let everything come up together gracefully. anyway just a suggestion good luck

also there is a TSB for a flash foir the transfer case. It fixes a bump feeling in the driveline but I think it generally did assist a little with smoothing things out may mention having that one done to the dealer also

The first time I went to the dealer for a TSB they just did a diff with the state of the onboard systems and it generated a list of all available flashes (they showed me on their PDA), which they applied automatically. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to specifically mention the others.

As for this latest transmission TSB that was released 2 days ago... the changelist of fixes it describes makes it seem like the second coming of Alfred Horner Munro.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I've been waiting 3 weeks for a new version of the valve body to go in mine that will supposedly address the transmission reverting back to the crappy shifting after a few weeks. It goes to dealer next Thursday to be installed.

Message to Massachusetts Chrysler/Jeep dealerships:

THIS is how you should treat your customers.

Wish the Jeep dealerships in my area did this. All I get is:

Jeep Dealership: "What's your VIN number", they then punch the number in the computer..."Nope, nothing available for your vehicle Sir".

Still dealing with my transmission downshifting rough into 1st gear coming to a full stop from a crawl (in ECO mode or not). Happens mostly when the vehicle hasn't reached "operating temperature" yet...as if it's hanging onto 2nd gear too long. Started at about 5,000 miles...so I did the battery disconnect thing, and nothing...still downshifts rough into 1st gear.

My next step is to file a complaint with Chrysler Customer Care.

Haha, and here I just ditched my purchase dealer for poor service due to the two week wait whenever I call in for a TSB flash. I'm going to a different dealer next week to get the various flashes I need to bring my vehicle up to date. I called on Friday at 1700 and they offered me an appointment next business day. That seems quite decent.

Sorry to learn of your difficulties. Keep us posted of how your complaint process unfolds.

Interestingly enough, the horrible 2-to-1 downshift lurch at stop resolved itself sometime during my 400 km nonstop Interstate drive using ACC on Friday; now it's just back to its normal, subpar shifting. I can't in good conscience propose such a drive as a fix, given the variables involved. Who knows what it decided to "learn" (or "unlearn") during that journey?

Regardless, it's getting the TSB flash fix on Wednesday.

I had the new TSB done on 8/27 since mine was in the shop anyways and it still down shifts coming to a stop but the bump is noticeably less. I expect to feel the shift....and it feels normal to me. It also lugs less in ECO mode and is more eager to downshift on demand.

Yes, I think I have reasonably calibrated expectations: I expect this to banish the severe "I've just been rear-ended" 2-to-1 downshift when coming to a halt that is substantial enough to jerk the vehicle.

A minor, yet perceptible bump is acceptable.
