Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Had the latest revision done about two weeks ago, it has improved the lag and accelerates much smoother no more deasd spot, but still have the hard shifting and clunking when the trans is cold.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Had the flash done early last week. It eliminated the harsh 2-3 upshift but it didn't eliminate the harsh 2-1 downshift.

Another 'learning' procedure. Chrysler must think that us 8 speed owners are idiots. This flash doesn't address any major update. It's just asking the tech to perform a quick learn just like they said in an earlier flash release middle of this year. Never ever buying a Chrysler product again.

it said something in there about loading new software into the TCM to enable a quick learn. maybe something different they are doing now. Crazy the number of updates you guys have gone through on that trans. hopefully maybe this one will help out some

Mine is better, the cold start hard 1 to 2 shift under no engine load has disappeared completely for 1 months or so.
What remains is an impossible drivetrain/tranny combination, I simply hate that economy default setting.
V6 engine cruises just fine, however, in case you really need to ask for power to pass I simply have to pull the shifter back into Sport mode, if I don't the tranny often shifts back 3 gears or more and is all confused, that behaviour in turn drives me crazy...

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Still getting rough downshifts into 1st gear crawling to a stop on my 12/13 build 2014 Overland V6 4x4. Started all of a sudden at about 5,000 miles.

And my case with Chrysler has just recently been escalated to case management for further review...

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I know this thread is a couple of years old, and I probably shouldnt res the dead, but this helped me tremendously. I read through the thread and saw some folks saying this was strictly placebo, but it's not. Just bought a used 2014 limited with the 3.6 and the shifting from 1 through 3 was terrible. A lot of lag from 1-2 and rough from 2-3. Coming to a stop was horrible too with the early downshifts to 3rd, 2nd and first. Hated it. Pulled the fuse for about an hour, let it idle for 5 then went for the best drive I've had in this thing since we got it. Shifts from a stop through 4 are smooth , and coming to a stop I only feel the shift from 4 to 3 a little bit. Has improved the ride a lot and eliminated the only thing I wasn't liking about this jeep. Which is a good thing because I love it. My other one is a 2001 grand limited with 222,000+ miles with very few problems. I really like the grand cherokee and wanted to love this one, now I absolutely do. Thank you for this old but an absolute goodie of a thread!

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Glad it helped! My 2014 will be 3 years old in May. Initially after several months the problem returned, however after the service department performed the updates, the tranny has been great - no problems at all. So if you see this issue return - go to the dealer and make sure they do all the electronic updates that the vehicle needs.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I did the latest updates and the issue still remains both with up shifting and down shifting.

I will try the fuse route. What do I do?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Most automatic transmissions today have what is called "adaptive strategy". In other words, the module that controls the transmission has the capability of adjusting shift points and shift feel based on how the vehicle is driven. You may let someone drive your vehicle for a couple of days and next time you drive it you may think that it just does not feel the same. That is because the transmission has been adjusted as to how it was driven by the other driver. After some shift cycles, it will adjust back to how you drive it. By disconnecting the battery what you have done is brought the strategy back to its default mode. I would be curious if the problem re-occurs. Was it like this from day one ? Or did it start shifting bad after a period of time?
