Is there a way to keep it in default mode? Forever?

Not that I know of. Another part of the strategy is to adjust clutch fill volume. In time as the friction plates in the clutch drums either compress or start to wear, the controller will see this and adjust accordingly. This is know as a "clutch volume index". The cvi number represents the amount of fluid it takes to apply that particular clutch pack. As the pack wears, the cvi number goes up. You may have a clutch pack 75% worn out and not feel it because the controller has adjusted for the wear. This is why it is important to reset the cvi's after replacing or rebuilding a transmission. This is also known as the "quick learn" procedure. I hope this info helps.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I have a 2014 Jeep SRT8 with about 42289 miles on and the trans is doing the same thing you guys are experiencing. Last week I took the jeep to the dealer so they can fix the S27 recall. Ever since then, the jeeps trans got worst. I drove 150 miles and the car wouldn't shift back to 1st gear so every time I came to a complete stop It would stay in 2nd. I took a video of this so I can show the dealer. Today the car is back at the dealer and they cant figure out the problem since its not giving any codes. I called Jeep and told them the problem and to send this to the recall department so hopefully they do. Also this new software they installed for the "fix" of S27 made my automatic windshield wipers go crazy three times already.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I have an appointment to get the S27 recall this Saturday. Asked my dealer to look for an update for the shifting issue. At 6500 miles I am getting very rough 1-2, 2-3 and sometimes 3-4 shifts. Violently shakes the vehicle. This is with light to moderate acceleration. I waited for the 2015 MY hoping these kind of bugs were resolved. I traded in a Mercedes ML for my JGC. Hopefully I don't live to regret that decision.

Hopefully, that may provide guidance to others that have the rough shifting return. I am expecting this condition to last.
What's up guys! Just wanted to chime in here for others who are having this same problem. I just bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L a week ago. Its been having the same 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and downshift gear change problems as everybody else here.

I pulled the fuse (F60) for 20 mins to see if that helped like others have been doing, but it didn't seem to help at all. I took it to the dealer yesterday (the 2nd day I drove it) to see what they said.

Low and behold, the tech calls me an hour after saying that the Valve body ShewString above got in his GC was bad and they would be replacing it as well as updating the ECU and settings to the current version.

I was very glad they diagnosed and acknowledged this as the problem during my first visit, and best part it is all covered under warranty!

Thanks again Jeep Garage, I'll post later in a few days with an update to how she drives when I get her back.

I got the recall done and there was no improvement. Turning ECO On/Off makes no difference. I started watching the temperature of the transmission to see if there is a correlation with temperature. Below 100 the shifts are very rough, by 150 the shifts are much smoother. Above 150 the shifts are are perfect. Looks like I have a trip to the dealer in my future. Hopefully this can be resolved without a big repair.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I pulled the negative just for shits and giggles and left it for 30 minutes. Then let it idle and drove. AC didn't work when I turned the GC on so I started it again and it worked. It shifts better. I can feel a difference not life changing, but noticeable.

Try turning off Hill Start Assist in settings. Had similar transmission problems with my 2014 3.6 4x4 JGC and battery disconnect helped for a while but unchecking the HSA has made a much bigger difference overall.

Update on the Jeep.

Others in the thread have said the same thing, but the tech told me that the #1 and #2 valve in the valve body was bad in the transmission and they have to replace it. They had it for a few days and replaced the part for me. Got a flush and fill all for free on the transmission too at 55k miles, thats a plus.

However, after having it for a week or so since they replaced the part it did NOT end up fixing the problem completely. Id say it helped, but it still has about 60-70% of the intensity it used to lurch forward. In addition, downshifting seems almost worse.

Fast forward, took it to the dealership on Friday. I called wanting an update and the tech ended up saying they detected a fault in the TCU (Transmission Control Module) and will have to replace the part and update to the most current software...

I hope this finally fixes it, will post an update soon!

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Its been two days since and the difference in the shifting is definitely noticeable and smoother.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I also had that fault .They updated the software and it changed the idle and it shifted great for about 2 weeks and went right back to lurching on shifts .

After two trips to a dealer I finally have resolution to my issue. They replaced the valve body. Shifting is smooth, same as when my Jeep was new. Time will tell if the repair is permanent. It took about 6K miles for the defect to be noticeable the first time. As a side note, FCA took this repair as an opportunity to remind me I haven't purchased an extended warranty. Maybe they are trying to tell me something?
