Yes - they hope to keep your money.

If they were truly worried about reliability issues, they would encourage you not to get the warranty specifically so you'd be on the hook for the repairs.

Rule number one of retail: sell as many extended warranties as possible on items that will never need them. Have as short a warranty as possible on items that will need them often.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I am really beginning to get annoyed, just when the car is driving well the transmission issues ark up.i am sitting at 15000+ and for the first time the 3-4 up/downshifts have become violent, and this is simply not just at cold starts, has any one had this issue specifically ? And what would this entail, as I am about to go out of warranty in a few months

I'm not aware of any fix being identified. I broke down and traded my 14 Laredo for a 17 limited. So far I'm loving it. No trans issues. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing sneaks up on me.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Just got my 2014 back from the dealer. I had them take care of the shifter recall and also had them do the transmission software update or whatever it's called. My 3 year 36k mile warranty ended over the weekend. It fixed nothing with my hard downshifts from 3-2-1. I can still feel them. I dropped my car off Saturday morning and was finally able to get it back this morning. Felt like I was without a car for no reason! Anyone have any success with the TSB fixing their issues with the trans?

You are probably going to have to fight for a valve body or transmission replacement. It has been documented before your warranty ended so they should be required to fix it. Don't hesitate to take the Service Manager for a test drive. Good luck.

As one last shot, now that you have the update software, I would try the reset as noted earlier in the thread. I had a 2014 with the same issues and doing the reset did the job. It was good for several months and it started happening again, but then after the software updates it was perfect. If that doesn't work - I agree with the previous post - have them look at any hardware issues.

Thanks for the recommendations. I called the dealership this morning and they said to bring it back in and they will do a test drive with me and if the problem persists they will give me a loaner and try to resolve the issue.
In the mean time i will try to do the reset. what exactly am I resetting? Do i just pull a fuse and then reinstall it or am I disconnecting the battery? TIA

Follow the very first post of this thread and then try to drive the Jeep about 3 miles in local streets, but driving very deliberate and smooth so the initial learning of the transmission software is set properly. This additional information was in another post, but I don't want to try to search and find it. I followed this and as I mentioned before worked!

Thanks! I'll do that. I'm scheduled to go in on Tuesday but if I'm able to fix the issue I will cancel my appointment.

Or you wait till after you go to the dealer. You don't want to mask the problem, now the dealer won't see it, then it comes back 5 months later. You might screw yourself. Let them ride in it first.
