Yes - they hope to keep your money.
If they were truly worried about reliability issues, they would encourage you not to get the warranty specifically so you'd be on the hook for the repairs.
Rule number one of retail: sell as many extended warranties as possible on items that will never need them. Have as short a warranty as possible on items that will need them often.
