Trying this now. As I was lifting off the negative terminal, my air suspension engaged for some reason and lifted the vehicle up. Anyone else experience this?

Had you just moved the Jeep? They do level themselves shortly after parking.

No, It had been sitting in my driveway for a few hours. I am about to reconnect it and go for a test drive, and am interested to see if the suspension really did change position.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Certainly does make a difference. Holds 1st and 2nd gears longer on both the upshift and downshift, making drive - even with ECO on - feel just a bit more like sport. Nice work GCLimited.

Tried the fuse method a few days ago. There has been a definite improvement in the downshifting 'smoothness'. Still not perfect, but giving it more time. Fingers crossed.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Gave this a try today and definitely an improvement in the 1-3 range. Stop and go traffic on the DC beltway Monday morning will be the real test, that is where it shows the worst. Definite improvement in regular driving though, thanks Sean.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I'm thinking back at the assembly line, maybe someone forgot to turn off calibration mode or something...and this battery reset does this?

The fuse method does sound easier than the battery reset, but I wanted to reset as many parameters as possible, not just the transmission parameters.

It is scary to hear though that some have noticed their battery cables loose from the factory attempting to perform this reset. It's worth performing the battery reset just to ensure the cables are tight!

Agree with the you on using the battery terminal pull. I thought about the fuse but thought it best to just pull the cable and let it reset all systems in truck not just trans. who knows what other factory gremlins maybe floating around in there.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I have to say I was skeptical that this would work, but I tried the battery reset and it made a world of difference in the upshifting. Still feel the lurch when downshifting at a light but I'll take what I can get for now.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

placebo effect?

I tried this fix over the weekend, I still have rough 1-2 shifts. With all of the positive posts, I'm wondering if any are just reporting on a placebo effect...

First thing, I and others may have been experiencing different issues to which this may or may not resolve. Second, I'm thinking some may be exaggerating the before and after, but I'm just assuming. But in all fairness, I'm going to assume that my specific issue isn't related to the TCM and/or that it can't be resolved through the reset.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

This seemed to improve my rought 2-1 downshift I would experience sometimes when pulling up to a red light.

I noticed my puddle lights on the side mirrors on the overland are not coming on when I unlock the doors now though. Anybody else notice this? Is it a setting I may need to reenable?
