Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

I just wanted to post some results after some A/B testing in case anyone is interested.

I did the battery reset as described here (didn't idle for 5 minutes) and then drove "spiritedly" right after. Drove it for a couple hundred miles after that and transmission shifting was rougher than before and didn't improve over the course of the drive.

Did the battery reset again (let it idle this time) and drove conservatively afterwords. Transmission shifting is much smoother than anytime before reset and MPG seems better too. Will update if situation deteriorates.

I can say definitively that the battery disconnect method made a noticeable difference in the 1-2 upshift in regular drive mode with ECO on. Sport (which I drive in most of the time) feels the same, though it never really had any issues to begin with. I was thinking afterward that someone who hasn't done this yet could make a chart of shift points by rpm before and after (on the same driving route, trying to replicate as much as possible), then we might be able to get a better (albeit not perfect) measure of the effect.

That would coincide with the thought of some, that the factory drivers are driving "spiritedly". Maybe some that haven't seen the rough shifting had more responsible factory drivers.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Another odd thing I noticed, during the first battery reset (spirited driving version), I could not get the transmission to shift to 8th gear (automatically or using the paddles) until I got to about 55-60mph. After the second reset (conservative driving), it will automatically go to 8th around 40mph. I'm not sure if that is anything to counter the placebo argument, but I figured I'd share.

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

Mine didn't want to shift into 8th either on the first drive but after a little kick with the paddle, it shifted in fine and has been fine ever since. Figuring it was just one of those learning bits. Didn't need any kind of 2nd reset to fix or anything.

Lights on the side view mirrors of my summit are out also after the reset. Did you ever figure out how to get these back on?

Mine seem to only work now if the mirrors are not folded. I don't remember this being the case before.

Placebo Effect?...no way.

My transmission just wasn't downshifting correctly when I took my foot off the gas pedal...it would hang in the upper gears, and once I would hit the brake pedal coming up to a stop, 2nd then 1st would hit hard causing a clunk at times. And my 2014 GC Limited 4x4 had over 1100 miles on it before I performed the reset, so the computer had plenty of time to learn beforehand.

My transmission now after the battery reset starts to downshift immediately after lifting off the gas, and 2nd & 1st downshifts are a lot smoother now. It also seems to be getting even smoother over time.

Can't speak for the puddle lights...I don't have them (wish I did!).

Is this something that can be turned on & off from the center display?

Do the turn signal indicators on your mirror still blink when you unlock the doors?

Mine have never worked when folded (wish they did). Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if the mirror puddle lights should work when the mirrors are folded?

Re: I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

While GCLimited's technique has been helpful to many, I can report that at least for my MY11 the computer learns continually. My downshifts were often rough and even clunked from 2nd to 1st early on. But for at least the past year shifting has been smooth and transmission is always finding correct gear. Just give it some time to learn.
