What rear are they using in the crd? The Jeep website shows the Hemi and crd getting 230mm rears, but only give the gear ratio for the Hemi.

3.09 for the HEMI
3.45 for Diesel

Lots of torque to the wheels

Anyway, that is the data I have at the moment.

Edit: appears to be current to production, again at time of post!

Up until this year the Hemi had the 3.45 and the V6 had the 3.09. I wish they kept the 3.45 for the Hemi. I'm not concerned with mileage. The problem the Hemi has in ECO mode is when you have to maintain 25 mph or less, and there is a lot of that around here. The 3.45 would let the engine run at a little higher rpm where it would run smoother. It would also be killer in sport mode.

ECO mode, at least for me, is actually ok if you are accelerating through 25 mph. But when it's your max speed for 1/2 mile or more it needs to be off.

Ya the whole gearing setup being different is difficult. It would be a tad rumbly at 25... All in the name of fuel economy!

I am really wondering where the RPMs will settle on the diesel though. Same tranny same ratios, different RPMs. That is going to be a ton of power to the road. So up 30 foot pounds plus the ratio difference, my trailer is gonna feel like it went on a 2000 pound diet!

Something else I wonder about is how many people have called or gone into the dealer to complain about the transmission only to be quickly sent on their way and told wait 5000 miles and it will get better or that's just how the 8spds are and then it is not formally documented unless someone becomes irate about it. I don't mean the enthusiasts on this board but more the average "its just a car" drivers who have the bulk of the numbers.

But like you said probably not on Jeeps front burner if the complaint numbers are not there to back it up
1. That is how mine was. Nice and smooth in the mornings, then when it warmed up it got herky-jerky. It stayed like that until 6500miles. Then I got a horrible slam from 2->3 in the mornings--it makes no noise, but it feels like the feedback you would get if you were in neutral revving the engine and then slam it into gear. At 8000mi the cold 1->2 shift is getting more rough. Not to say this will happen to you, but for me it is getting worse.

2. I was told by the same dealership twice that "this is totally normal." They had no response about why it just started at 6500mi. When I would ask, they would change the subject and try to distract me. The reps there should really run for political office, they sling bull crap like pros. I kept complaining to jeep cares, and now I am going into a second dealership where I will be assigned a case manager. Don't know if that will resolve anything, but I'm a little tired of being told it's normal when it clearly isn't.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

From the descriptions people are posting this sounds pretty bad...jerking trans, feeling like being rear-ended, etc. Makes no sense service managers saying it's not an issue. Is it intermittent and they can't reproduce it when they drive it? What gives.

Not intermittent at all. It's like clock work. I was told "these transmissions have more sensors then any one I've ever seen before. If something was even a little off, it would throw a code. So until it does, we can't do anything." Which I roughly translated to 'We wern't trained on/don't know anything about this new transmission so until it slow walks me to a conclusion you will just have to live with it, now go away.'

One thing to keep in mind, this is the internet. Some folks exaggerate the situation, some downplay the problems and some describe it accurately. So unless you drive the vehicles in question you have no idea how bad it is.

Then, on the other side of the coin you have dealers that don't want to admit there is a problem, you have dealers who will try to create work out of anything, and you have dealers who know how to recognize and want to fix it.

The odds of a rational customer linking up with a competent - honest dealer can be pretty slim.

"you have dealers who will try to create work out of anything" this is the problem I always had and why I swore I would never walk into another Nissan dealer ever again. Not a bad car but consistent issues with the service department at various dealers. Hopefully jeep will be a better experience.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Hi all. I got an email from Jeep this am to participate in a survey about my new GC. I spent a good deal of time explaining about the trans situations that everyone has been posting about. I went into a lot of detail mentioning how many people are having very similar issues with the bogging down, or the herky-jerky. I know it's probably just a standard survey, but maybe someone of consequence will take note. Who knows if it will do any good, but at least it's out there.

I'd have to say they will probably take your comments with a grain of salt, not that your heart isn't in the right place. They want hard facts about YOUR experience, not anecdotal details from a forum. But thanks for trying. Really!
