Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Most of us are basically all experiencing the same transmission behavior. Upshift for first few gears is too early before sufficient rpms and it bogs down, downshifts occur inappropriatly at lower speeds almost feels like the brake is coming on slowing you down too rapidly with abrupt downshifts at lower speeds. I never can easily coast to a light. The transmission programming needs to be improved. Love the 8 speed if they could just improve the firmware/software.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

What if there are multiple issues?

Does the programming need to be changed?

Is there a sealing problem that leads to water in the transmission in high humidity (or low humidity and longer time periods)?

With out a focus on the answers to these issues that gets to a resolution how do we know the problems will not get a lot worse?

There has been 1 report I have seen on this forum of moisture in the tranmission and who knows if that was really the case and I believe that was on a V-8. I really don't think that would indicate a wide spread issue. I think most of the complaints will be resolved with a future software update.

But once twelve people on the internet repeat it, we have twelve cases, and so on, and so on, etc.

I agree that most of the problems will be software fixes.

Isn't this the same transmission used in most of the BMW's? If I remember correctly before I bought my 2014 I researched what transmission Chrysler is using for their 8 speeds and I'd read it's an outsourced zf whatever transmission used in the 7 series and now most of the the other BMW series and has been around for a few years?? Next year Chrysler will manufacture it. Ever since I reset my transmission its been a pleasure to drive in whatever mode. I can feel a little hitch in the driveline when stuck in traffic and I'm on and off the gas at low speed but nothing that a full-time 4x4 system shouldn't feel like.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Both units are really the same ZF 8 speed. Its just the v-6 version has a lower torque rating and is now being manufactured by chrysler. The v-8 version is currently being built by ZF but will be built by chrysler in the future as capacity is added at there plant.

I have read this in numerous posts. But there must be some differences if it has a lower torque rating. They didn't just change the label.

While I expect the fix will be software, it is always possible that it has something to to with a part or a process in the manufacture of the units.

You can have transmissions of the same basic design with different torque ratings.

I agree 100%.

But, the difference is in the details. And it could be a minor difference that is apparently causing folks a lot of grief.

Time will tell.
