Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to post my experience and the supposed "solution" that chrysler recommended.

We got a 2014 WK2 3.7L last year in October. We were having transmission issues since day one related to harsh upshifting and downshifting. I got all the latest flashes applied to the car but it DID NOt make a 1% difference.

So Chrysler decided to step in and replace the control valve body. They put us in a loaner for about 8-9 days. Replaced the valve body last week and told us to drive the car for the next 1000 miles with the ECO mode off to let the car calibrate the adaptives. We've been driving the car without the eco off.

At first for the first 50 miles, the jeep seemed to be shifting pretty well (not perfect though) with a little hard shifting when coming to a stop from gear 2 to gear 1. But after the second day with the new valve body, the car is back to its regular harsh shifting. It is really bad when coming to a stop from 2 to 1 and also when downshifting from geat 5 to gear 4. We have put 500 miles on it since the new control valve body was put it. The upshfting is doing better but the downshifting is still poor. So I do not what to do at this moment? They told me that the new valve body would fix my issues.

Should I give the transmission more time to the let the new control valve body break in? I am really upset and disappointed with this issue. Also worried for the transmission in the long run as well especially after the powerterrain warranty runs out.

It sounds like your transmission may still have a problem, though hard to know the role that the adaptives can play. I went and had my dealer do the revision C flash update today. I am anxious to see how it shifts cold in the morning, either tomorrow or Saturday. I can say that the update significantly improved overall drivability. I think that they hit the right balance now for shift points as a function of amount of throttle, and I also believe they are correct for optimum fuel economy. I am very pleased with this update so far; shifts are seamless and smooth; barely feel them. I hope your issue gets sorted out. At least there is a 100K warranty.

I am 2500k's, and a variant of the same issue

Harsh downshifts under 50-5th to 4th and if one coasts to a stop, the downshifts are slightly gentle but brake to stop , the downshifts become aggressive

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I've been having rough downshift issues from 2nd to 1st. The dealer upgraded this week the software modules and it is not throwing any issue codes on their diagnostic computer. However, the updates have not resolved the issue.

I've also tried to disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 minutes per previous threads but this didn't solve the issue.

In talking with corporate and the dealer, their response is basically there's no issue codes so there's nothing we can do. This is bs, I only have 3K miles on it. Based on all the replies to this and other threads, when is Jeep going to recognize this issue and address? I'm lost on next steps, I didn't spend $40K for a new car that doesn't know how to downshift to a stop.

I believe the latest is C. Anyone know if there was officially a Rev D? I vaguely recall talk about it.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I definitely could use the possible D update and why not schedule me for the E update as well

I picked up my V8 4x4 Summit yesterday 4/5/2014....and the transmission is smooth and a dream so far. Don't know what version it has though.

Congratulations on your new purchase! Majority of the issues are with the v6's. From my understanding the transmission for the v8 comes from Germany made by ZF and is unmodified. The v6 tranny gets modified here in the US this leading to all the shifting issues.

You, thankfully, have the 8HP70 tranny that comes with all V8/Diesels. Most, not all, of the issues in this thread are for the 845RE that comes with all V6 equipped JGC's. The Rev C is the TSB for the 845RE tranny. It get's confusing reading the threads because very few post which engine they have since most are unaware of the difference.

I would be very surprised if you had any issues with your tranny other than it getting to know you and you getting to know it.

Enjoy your new ride.
