Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Sounds to me that if I want to bite the bullet with a '14, I should get the Hemi. Do you concur?

I don't know about "biting" it but if you want to BE a bullet, well then...

Another point is that the SRT has the exact same tranny (un-modified) as the V8's and Diesels. Point is that if it's beefy enough to handle the SRT beast then it's adequate for my measly 5.7 Hemi. It was the fact that I am ultimately a V8 guy that made my decision not the tranny.

2014 V6 Pentastar

5,223 miles and my transmission, from the first mile, has been so smooth I have to watch the RPM's to see it shift - it's so smooth I literally can't feel it.

The only complaint I have is sometimes, when I'm doing about 60 MPH, I'll look down and I'm in D7 - seems like if you're going that fast you should be in 8th.

Mine can go into 8th as early as about 43 mph if warmed up. It waits longer when cold. Sometimes I will use the paddle shifter and do manual shifts when cold, then go back to automatic after partial warm-up. I sort of hope there will be another firmware update to improve cold shift points. I have the latest release from December.

Had this happen to me last week. Tried to pull out in traffic And it took that long for it to start moving, almost caused an accident bc of it. It's in for the software update this morning as well as some other things. Only have 900 miles on it.

So buckaroo ,you have never experienced the cold transmission jerking problems?

What build, and what are your driving patterns?

I am at nearly 2500km and cold starts have my 1st changeover at 2500 rpm and then for the next 10 min stuck in 4th gear doing 2500rpm

Laredo base 4x4

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Hi all, I just bought my 2014 JGC Summit 5.7 yesterday. One thing I noticed is that the upshifts are very nice. But when I am coming to stop say for a stoplight, I feel a slight "bump", just right before I completely stop. I only have about 20 miles on the odometer. I remember reading somewhere that what I am experiencing is common and will go away once the "learning" curve of the trans is done? Is there a certain driving style I should maintain to help in ensure this "bump" goes away? Should I continue to drive with eco mode on or eco mode off? Thanks in advance!

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I am also having a problem with the transmission. Mine is popping into 2 and 3 gear when the vehicle is cold. Went in earlier this week for updates (Oct build 4500 miles) After the updates the transmission is shifting a lot better when it's warmed up then it was before. Getting in it this morning when the vehicle wasn't warmed up, the updates made NO difference. It's still jerking into 2 and 3rd gear until the temp reaches about 110. They told me the transmission operating temperature is 185 degrees. I guess this is just the way it is (I attached a copy of the updates performed)

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Those posting here should keep in mind that the majority of issues lie with the V6 version of the ZF 8 speed. The other three GC (V8, Diesel, and SRT) all share a different ZF 8 speed which has had very few complaints/problems. Mine has been perfect from day 1, both up shifting and downshifting (I have the Hemi).

Thanks for this info! I drive it around more today, and I didn't feel a thing anymore. Hopefully it will stay that way! lol!

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I had mine in Saturday for an oil change and had them do the latest TSB on the tran which was released 4/16. I think I was two behind. Either way, I was able to tell a huge difference immediately.

How does it shift when your vehicle is cold?
