Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

My issue is worst when cold and downshifts from 2 to 1, especially when under light braking on an incline.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Got my new Grand Cherokee last week delivered directly from the factory (it was around 8 weeks since the order date but it didn't matter to me since I have my old car to drive around). All I can say at this point is to reiterate what I already said before - your dealership and the sales rep MATTERS A LOT!
I got a fantastic deal (5% under invoice without having to deal with group buying) and a 4-year loan at 0.09%! My sales rep was absolutely fantastic to deal with and he turned potentially very bitter experience into a great deal overall. I love my new Jeep - the transmission is very smooth and everything else is working great (well, it's a bit early to say that since at this time I only have 350 mi on it but the last transmission experience was bad from start).

Again, some dealerships would turn this situation into a disaster but these guys gave me exactly what I asked for and never pressured me into anything.

I will definitely buy a Lifetime Max when I settle in the new ride. With everything that can go wrong with multiple computer systems and complex mechanics I think it's a no brainer.

I really wanted to post this because I catch myself posting only negative feedback driven by anger and frustration (I bet 90% people are like that) which paints a negative picture about something. It's just human nature that when we are happy we don't have time to write positive things about something but rather spend time enjoying it vs. frustration is usually a driver to blast a brand/product all over the web.. Well, here's my positive contribution to the community

Another thing I've never done - if anyone is looking to buy a new Jeep in Nor Cal (Sacramento area) PM me and I will give you the contact info of the guy I dealt with. I have nothing but positive things to say about him. People like him deserve your/mine business and hopefully they slowly push out the "bad kind" out of car selling business!

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I bought my JGC two months ago. After a while I started noticing the rough shifting between 1-2 gear on heavy traffic that kept getting worst all this time and also serious acceleration lag unless I used Sport mode. Looked on the door and turns out my Jeep was assembled on July '13 and needed several upgrades.

I talk to the dealer, made the appointment and left the car to make the upgrade, they kept the car the whole week cause they "tested and adjusted" the upgrade about 3 times to get it right and now my Jeep is buttery smooth.

Let me know after you put a few hundred miles on it. Mine was good directly after and went to hell in a hand basket after a few hundred miles. I have the exact symptoms listed above.

Post Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Just an update for everyone following my hellish journey....

Had the valve body replaced last week after having the GC in the shop 22 days (that's just one repair attempt, there have been 6 to fix the tranny)

Vehicle still experiencing the harsh up shift down shift and shudder when breaking.

Called my jeep case manager and told him if I do not get a replacement or buy back I will be immediately signing paperwork for the attorney.

Low and behold they call me a day later and agree to give me a replacement of any Chrysler product.

So in the end I'm happy. Won't get any reimbursement but at least I won't have to be in the shop every other week

So now what to choose??!

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I had enough of mine shifting like crap. The hail damage I got gave me the perfect opportunity to get out of it. Proud new owner of a buttery smooth shifting 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys with the "old" 5spd that absolutely demolishes this 8spd piece of crap.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Have to agree. The new 8 speed is a piece of crap. Maybe not if it would function as intended but it doesn't... so it sucks.

I don't have a trade option at the moment so I'll have to hope they figure it out. Not optimistic as the company line is " It's not me, it's you."

But yeah, this is either a case of them introducing this before it was ready or it just plain sucking. Neither is a good thing.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

My Father works at the Cherokee plant and said the engineers can't get the 9spd in them to shift worth a damn either. My parents 2011 Grand w/5spd shifts smooth as can be.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I dont know guys - I have a Summit built in Aug 2013, My son-in-law has a Cherokee built in November 2013 and my Daughter's best friend has a Durango built in December 2013...
all of them are Pentastar + 8 or 9 speed ZF - not of them exhibit any of the highly exaggerated symptoms you guys report on here. the only roughness was when brand new and breaking in.....

Possibly your driving styles are so challenged that your units learned to shift badly?????

On the chance that I am missing a unique experience - I have several other friends acquaintances that have 2014 Jeep/Durangos with the Pentastar + ZF combo and they report nothing like what you are.
