Just spoke with Jeep Corp. and was basically told to shove it. The dealer claims it is fine as long as the eco button is turned off. Again how is that a fix.

all of them are Pentastar + 8 or 9 speed ZF - not of them exhibit any of the highly exaggerated symptoms you guys report on here. the only roughness was when brand new and breaking in.....

Possibly your driving styles are so challenged that your units learned to shift badly?????

On the chance that I am missing a unique experience - I have several other friends acquaintances that have 2014 Jeep/Durangos with the Pentastar + ZF combo and they report nothing like what you are.
Mine was a 9/10/13 build. While I do believe it is possible the severe lag when trying to accelerate could be me being easy on the skinny pedal, the feeling of the transmission "slipping" and slamming in 1st/2nd gear couldn't be my fault.

Aha a pattern emerges!
Mine and others I have observed are not super smooth in ECO and tend to shift early - all in the name of economy!
While mostly smooth mine is not super smooth in Eco and if I really try I can detect a certain "roughness" in Eco - that is not there at all when I turn Eco off!

If you have a problem with that take it up with the tree huggers in the EPA! Or if you want seamless shifts get a CVT equipped $hitbox!

My 2001 with a 4.7 and 5 speed is smoother at low speeds and just starting out? However it leaks at least 12 gals/mile!
I can sell you that cheap if you really want smooth shifts - however let me warn you to turn it off while fueling as the gas station pump can't keep up (just kidding but it is horrendous by comparison)

Do any of the cars you are comparing the jeep to have an aggressive ECO setting mandated by the Druids at the EPA?

I don't care what the reason is. My 36,000 Jeep shouldn't shift like it has a slipping transmission. My Wrangler shifts great so problem solved for me.

If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Ur wrangler has the same Mercedes designed 5 speed my 2001 GCLIMITED has.

Fwiw ur not slipping ur transmission is doing what you trained it to do!

Assuming you have all the code updates then you probably need to go through the transmission training process that is documented in one of the recent TSBs.

If that's not good enough then get rid of the thing and go buy an Altima with 4 cylinder and CVT - I guarantee that shifts smooth!

I'm tired of you negativity and whining - instead of complaining be proactive and either follow some of the suggestions or get rid of it - fwiw there are literally 100k or more owners who are happy so the problem is isolated to either a few users or jeeps

I'm guessing you used your demonstrated communications skills on jeep customer service, hence their enthusiastic response!

P.S. How's the ride and NVH and fuel usage on that Wrangler compared to the Grand Cherokee?

Tired of my whining towards Jeeps? My Dad has 35 years with Jeep. Let's just say I'm not going to discuss the awards Sergio Marchionne has personally handed my Father on multiple occasions because with some Google work you'd be able to find out who he is. I won't even get into the fact about how ignorant you are about who you're talking to about Jeeps..... Just pointing out that my family bleeds Jeep... so moving on....

First off, the transmission doing what I trained it to is a bunch of B.S. There isn't a way to train a transmission to slam into 2nd gear after coming to a complete stop or take 3 seconds to shift from 1st to 2nd. Again I know how these are supposed to work and it's understood from the inside (Jeep) they are having massive programming issues with it. Not just the 8spd either.

Oh and thanks for the history lesson on transmission on my Jeep. Oh wait I already know I was just there taking a private tour on Monday...

And to answer your one question: 20.7mpg on the GC and so far 17.7 on the Wrangler but I've been mostly city since it only has 160 miles on it so far and the manual suggests speeds of below 55mph for the first 300 miles.

To be completely honest, you kind of sound like a condescending jerk.

To say that we are "highly exaggerating our problems" is completely off based as you have not experienced first hand our transmission issue(s).

I'm sorry but when I spend $50,000 on an American-made SUV I expect it to drive properly and not be in the garage every other week for the same issue.

Clearly if Chrysler is offering to pay me not only my downpayment but also all of my monthly payments I have made so far there is a specific problem that they are unable to resolve.

Why don't you keep your negative comments to yourself and stop judging us members who simply want a vehicle that drives correctly. Saying that our "driving style" is causing the issue based on your "experience of 3 well made vehicles" is simply idiotic as that is 3/400,000 vehicles on the road or .000075%

Get your facts straight before spewing your pompous comments.

Agree with this member, that guy clearly has to hide behind forums trying to blame us owners for our problems with our vehicles. Typical, he probably works for Chrysler.

I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee besides the transmission issue, and it's my third one and I'm only 22. I might be young, but I'm extremely experienced and knowledgeable. While I love jeep, a bad experience is a bad experience and we, as paying customers, deserve a well-run vehicle that works as designed. Cheers

I have no problems in Eco mode. Depress the pedal sharply and it downshifts immediately and off I go. I put it in Sport mode for things such as merging a heavy traffic. I rarely use normal mode. I just performed my second oil change at 18,818 miles. Mine has the V8 and four wheel drive.

The V8's contain an 8-speed transmission that is unmodified from it's original source from ZF, a German company. The V6's contain a 8-speed that was modified by Chrysler thus the problems are generally with the V6 engines.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

so far my 2014 March 2014 built v6 8 speed is working as designed.. (2,700 miles)
I will say this, its my wives DD and I drive it when im not working, I have a heavy foot and hers is light. maybe the severe changes in driving style is a good thing. the jeep cannot learn how we drive

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

We'll several things - I don't work for Chrysler and never have! - I'm not hiding behind anything! - if your dad really does work for FCA then why are you on here bashing FCA products/services? - way to support him! - report/discus yes - bash no! - I stand by my opinion of incessant whining - as a software engineer i can tell you that based on what's been reported here there very unique circumstances at play here otherwise everyone would be whining - my educated guess is they are having problems identifying these circumstances - I would bet, if I had to, that the defect is in the "learning logic" - another thing to consider is that the hemi and the diesel have gobs of torque compared to the pentastar - said torque/power would tend to mask low speed starting and shifting problems
