Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

2015 V6 Overland here. I get a very harsh 1st to 2nd gear shift when the transmission upshifts under no throttle. It's actually more of a "bang" when it shifts. Other than that, the transmission shifts silky smooth....but the vehicle only has 350 miles on it so far.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Guys I need your help, I am at my wits end...I can't believe I gave up my 380 for this, I mean love the car, but this transmission is driving (pun intended) crazy, all these lurches driving a 45K SUV is embarrassing. I spoke to JA and they advised to send my car in...

my laredo 4x4 ?jun2013 build just came back from the dealers after they applied and re learnt the transmission over 14 days, they had no dyno so 2 guys were locked in with my car making it hit those torque bands that were so desperately needed, all of it done by them, and I got to use brand new cars and fuel in that process, I take her out to top up the tank...

...And we are back, although the harsh shifts between 1-2 and 3-4 are reduced by 50% but now it occasionally looses power with the tach at or under 2000 in between the shifts upto 5th gear (only did it once today), and the sticking shifts in 4th gear upto 60km/hr for a good 20 min of continuous driving.

My mechanic sincerely tried to get a new transmission but was rebuffed by JA, they told him to install the RECENT TSB(that was launched on the 2nd day they had my car, was flashed and due processes conducted),
They (JA) are not interested in the control SOP valve that another user got changed to be done for my car

what should I do now?

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

At the risk of jinxing myself...

I've experienced the harsh 2-3 upshift and 2-1 downshift.

On 9-11-14 I had the adaptive relearn process applied to my transmission. That immediately took care of the harsh 2-3 upshift but did nothing for the harsh 2-1 downshift.

From last Friday to today, on three full round trip commutes to-from work, the harsh 2-1 downshifts have disappeared. There was one "minor" downshift in there that was so insignificant that I even hate to mention it here. Other than that it's been as smooth as one could ever hope for.

I probably put 300-350 miles on the vehicle after the relearn before this happened.

LOL... do I dare hope that it finally taught itself to shift properly? Time will tell and I'll have to see some long term mileage results before I finally believe it. At least for now it's a step in the right direction.

If it returns then I'm going to work with my dealer on getting a new valve body installed.

Does your GJC stick in 4th when driving after standing overnight, or is that a "unique feature" of mine?, my dealership put the relearn process by monitoring the torque on a connected PC after they applied the TSB, does that mean she needs more "learning "?

Sorry to hear that JA won't step up to replace the valve body. The only thing they listen to is a loss of customer. For the 49k sticker my overland was, these refinement issues should be top priority to reinforce the brand position they believe Jeep is.

They did replace my valve body with dramatic improvement especially when cold. Downshift to first can be clunky, but smooth otherwise.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Like Rush, my 14 SRT does similar things, up shifts are fine, but light or no throttle downshifts suck, especally the 5-4 down shift... Appt. tomorrow with the dealer, see what they come up with, not very confident that they will have a good repair or answer for this, but I guess I have to start with them... Already tried the battery disconnect, helped some, I have about 4k miles on mine

What is this "rough" you speak of? Can you elaborate more?

No, I've never had that problem. All you can do is let them do the relearn then drive it like I did with mine and see if it straightens out for you.

I had no problems on today's commute, so that makes 4 round trips so far.

Well to put prices in perspective my laredo 4x4 (with the cam, cd, uconnect 8, and the18's) was for 48k AUD in nov last year, that's the cost I bore for this vehicle.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Well here is an update, After doing a battery reset, that helped for a while, I decided to finally bring my GC SRT into my dealership to address my poor downshifting that has troubled me since day one.....For those that don't wish to read about my problems tester with my dealership's service dept. I will first tell you the outcome, then I will talk about the experience. The dealership has ordered a new Transmission Valve Body to install in my Jeep. They estimate a 3-5 day wait on this part, but I feel this fix will finally cure my transmission issues, and I'm happy that this is their first repair choice, rather than all the software & reprogramings that other dealers seem to be doing. Now onto my fun day, I had made an appointment to bring my Jeep in for this problem days in advance, I even received a telephone call reminder from them of my appointment the day before. so I showed up at 9am for my appointment as requested....I might point out that my dealership is located clear accross town at a neighboring city......I ask my service advisor if he would like me to hang around for an hour or so, to see what they might think of my trans problem, he tells me no, that they will need the Jeep all day anyway, and they don't know exactly how long it will be before their trans guy will get to it.....OK, so I ask to have their shuttle service return me home, told no problem, soon as he gets back from his current drop off, just relax and they will come get me when he returns.....so far all OK,
So i wait, and I wait and I wait, after about 2+ hours, I ask them whats going on, told they don't know but will find out, or they will get their back-up shuttle driver....After another 45 mins go by, now about 3 hrs total, The shuttle arrives back at the dealership. I'm told that he needs to use the rest room, get some coffee, and that he will probably be grumpy, but just be patient....After about another 10 mins, the driver comes over and asks if I need transportation, I tell him yes and where, he complains that he just came from that area of town and that it's 40 min trip back, but tell me to get in an off we go....
I tell him that i had been waiting for 3 hours, and he says the dealership won't hire another driver....the trip home is uneventful....At about 3:45PM, I get a call from my service adviser, He tells me that they are backed up and won't be able to get to my Jeep at all, and do I want a rental car? I ask if they are going to get to it the next day (today) and he says he hopes so...... I pass on a rent a car for now.....I then decided that I was not being treated as I felt I should be, Like having a dentist appointment and when you get there being told maybe we will see you, but were very busy, to me unacceptable!
Be different if I just stopped by one day, but had a appointment for days! So I go online and find a General Manager at this dealerships sister dealership near by. The GM there was very nice and took my call. He brought up my service history for this visit, and listed and agreed that I should not have been treated this way. He told me he would have someone call me in a few minutes from the dealership where my Jeep was....About 30 later I did receive a call from the Service Manager at the dealership where my Jeep was. He told me that they had now checked my Jeep, (imagine that?) and that they felt it needed a new Transmission Valve Body, that part was first good news of the day, he said they would verify that in the morning and call me with all my options, sure enough at 9:30aM today they called, and said they would be ordering the valve body, and that I could either pick up my Jeep, which they were washing for me, or they would get me a rental car.....They said they would expedite the part order and should have it in 3-5 days as I said above.....It's sad that I had to go to all this hassle to get them to respond appropriately as they should have, I told them they wasted an entire day of my time, and that my time is just as valuable as theirs is, I may not be well liked there, but I bet I don't have too many problems in the future, as they now know I will not stand by quietly without raising cane with the higher ups, and that I'm willing to keep going up the food chain until I get to someone who cares..... The squeaky wheel is the one that gets greased....PS I received numerous apologies from all involved, I said all that was necessary was to advise me of their backed up situation and suggest a re scheduling of my appt......

Hmm so now they are doing valve bodies on the 8HP70 not just the v6 trans. That is the first i have noticed replacement on that trans. Good luck hope that fixes it

Well said. I couldn't agree more! The worst thing any service provider can do is treat you as thought their time is more important than your time.
