Silvermax,
Thanks, I do believe the replacement of the valve body should do the trick, fingers crossed

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

This transmission issue is just plain awful
I mean now my transmission will shudder between 1st and 2nd gear, then if I rev smoothly and gently the gear shifts to 3rd but if I keep up the rev in the same pattern the gear sticks in 3rd and the torque sticks meaning the car will not slow down if I lift off the gas, so I have to stomp on the gas to rev I higher and force it shift to 4th where it again sticks for higher rev and or I have to fumble with the paddle shifters to make it shift and then keep fighting with the transmission till we have gone through half an hour of this, and then the problem smooths out.

The distraction this causes is mostly in the city, and I have had few close shaves because of fumbling with this transmission thing, all of this is after the latest TSB flash

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Just came back from my jeep Garage. Told them about the horrible downshifting, sluggish eco mode, etc with the transmission. They said screw it we are going to apply all current flashes for you. What a difference it makes. Seems like a brand new vehicle almost. I want to thank all of you in Jeep Garage as I just found this forum over the weekend, and with my research was able to talk intelligently with the service manager. He even did the flashes for the amp, HVAC, NAV, etc. Two hours of waiting but well worth it! I finally have the jeep I paid 45k for!

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

For me the transmission is at its worst at lower speeds, like less than 20MPH. In particular it's really bad when I slow to a stop and at less than 5MPH (more like 2MPH) the transmission goes from 2nd to 1st. It is almost always extremely rough, and I noticed that the less fuel in the tank, the rougher. It's also noisy and rough at speeds around 10-15MPH, typically when I accelerate to that speed and then let off the gas (like when I'm in a parking lot); the upshift/downshift tends to be pretty rough and noisy. At higher speeds the transmission is generally pretty good though.

I did get the 2nd to last transmission software update; my dealer refused the latest one because they claimed "it had already been done" but I think they just didn't want to plug it into the computer and check for the updates, and instead just saw in my history that I had gotten an update before and so it no longer applied. When I take the Jeep in for these recalls I'll try to get them to update it again, hopefully they will this time and hopefully it'll improve things. I recently drove a family member's Caravan from the mid 90s and the tranny on that thing is smoother than my 2014 Jeep's is.

I'll also be trying to get them to make the driver door sit flush, the last dealer I took it to said it wasn't possible but I find that hard to believe.

Thumbs up Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Well I just got my 14 SRT back from my dealers service dept.....Over all not bad, I had it in last week for this trans problem,(which I've had since day one). They had it overnight.....They first tried the TSB-21-012-14 Drive -learn procedure, no luck, so they ordered me a new transmission valve body, part # RL227332AA, I took my Jeep back while waiting for this part. Took 6 days to get part. Today they installed it, and then did the TSB 21-012-14 Drive learn Proceedure again.....my problem now seems to be corrected, and driving like it should have all along.....I probably should not have waited 4,000 miles before bringing it in, but after reading all the issues here I figured I was in for a battle, or for them to tell me mine was normal and they all do that..... I did try the battery disconnect a while back and it did help some for a while.....I believe the real issue is some faulty valve bodies got into a number of transmissions, and are causing the problems we have been experiencing here.....The key I guess is to try an convince your dealer's service dept. to replace your train's valve body, without wasting your time with other fix attempts that don't seem to permanently fix the problem...... I think this is going to really fix my shifting problems, but I will have to wait and see to be sure, but as mine did it since I took delivery, and doesn't do it anymore I'm pretty hopeful

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

OK, drove about 300 miles, and now my trans is starting to feel like it did before the new valve body and re learn, I don't know, maybe I'm just nuts.... But it just doesn't down shift right.... It's weird that it worked for awhile, and that it sometimes is fine and other times not.... Maybe this new trans just feels different from any auto trans I have ever driven.... Starting to make me nuts.... I will drive it fir a while more and then it maybe back to the dealer..... A new transmission perhaps is needed, or maybe I need drugs.... LOL

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

+1 here. Mine is Limited, build date May 2014. Everything was smooth as butter up to around 4,000 miles. Now when the engine is cold going from 1st to 2nd feels exactly as described - it feels stuck and then it "jumps" to 2nd. Also now going from 7th to 8th isn't as smooth as it was before (if feels like a small bump). Other gears still shift smooth.

...And when I say "cold" I am talking California cold (you know like 60s.. brrr Not looking for winter days with this transmission when it's 30s.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Well don't feel bad, my 14 SRT just had it's valve bidy replaced, last thursday, and a prigraming, and now I'm about to call the dealer again, it's now worse than ever, we drove 300 miles on vacation and it's driving me crazy.... Don't know if they are going to find a cure for this until Chrysler Corp. Comes up with one, on mine upshifts are all fine, its all low speed downshifts that are crazy, tried coasting down a steep long driveway in 1st, and the car kept almost coming to a stop on its own, hard to explain but really strange

Question Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Can someone explain the "need" for Jeep to have the software constantly downshift the tranny when going down any kind of incline? Why can't it stay in a high gear like any other automatic I have ever owned, and "coast" until you decide to accelerate and then it can pick a gear to shift to. Brakes are a lot cheaper to replace than wear and tear on a transmission I think?! Dave

Unbelievable. This is not what I wanted to hear. And to think I gave up a perfectly running 4Runner for my Grand Cherokee.

Is it really downshifting? Or is it just not upshifting? Mine will just hold the gear while coasting down a hill. I don't think it ever downshifts coasting down a hill, but it doesn't upshift either.
