Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

14Summit,
I don't know if this normal, but even the dealers trans expert thought it was abnormal, and they went ahead and changed the valve body, it was good for the first day after I got it back, then gradually the problem returned and is now worse than when I first brought it in.... If was always constant I would not think so much about it, but at times it acts normally, then other times terribly.... Who knows???

Ya the tranny can make or break one's satisfaction for sure. FWIW, it doesn't seem to be widespread, definitely way less than the V6 845RE. Good luck!

From last Friday to today, on three full round trip commutes to-from work, the harsh 2-1 downshifts have disappeared. There was one "minor" downshift in there that was so insignificant that I even hate to mention it here. Other than that it's been as smooth as one could ever hope for.

I probably put 300-350 miles on the vehicle after the relearn before this happened.

LOL... do I dare hope that it finally taught itself to shift properly? Time will tell and I'll have to see some long term mileage results before I finally believe it. At least for now it's a step in the right direction.

If it returns then I'm going to work with my dealer on getting a new valve body installed.
Update: I have another 400 miles on the GC (700-750 total) since the relearn and the trans is still upshifting and downshifting smoothly.

I am at 25% left before oil change and will have them do the relearn.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I had mine gone trough a software update and transmission relearn procedure a few months ago and was smooth as butter until about a month and a half later and the rough shifting came back and worse. Extremely rough upshift from 1st, 2nd and 3rd and downshift from 2nd to 1st. Even on full stop using the paddles and downshifting the car to 1st, the car kept jumping.

When I took the Jeep back to the 10k km service a few weeks ago, I told them to check it again and they said the car was working as intended when they game me the key and no upgrade/relearn was done.

They did had to unplug the battery for the service so I guess this rebooted the computer and now the transmission is a lot smoother, once or while I do get the occasional 2nd to 1st downshift, but very lightly. Everything is better now but with an uncertainly of when will be creeping back again.

Yep, and I don't expect mine will stay shifting smoothly permanently. The harsh shifting will likely return in time so I guess I'll enjoy the smoothness why it lasts.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I'll just go ahead and put my 2 cents in as well. I joined this site because I fell in love with my 2014 GC V6 and about a month after buying it, it allll started..the shifts weren't smooth, the annoying shutters when coming to a complete stop, the head bobs, thinking someone just rear ended me..very disappointed in this transmission.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I guess I am glad mine isn't as bad as some peoples on here. I have 102000 miles on mine and have no downshifting problems only the small kinda stalls 1-2 then 2-3 and that's it. And the stalls don't happen all the time. Most of the time when coming to a stop sign mine doesn't even go down to first gear I am normally leaving in second which could be cause most of the time I am not sitting at stop sign waiting for others to go. I only drive in Eco mode with the occasional sport mode.

LOL... if you're not dropping down into 1st gear at a stop sign it's because you aren't coming to a complete stop.

Speedometer says zero. To me that classifies a complete stop.

Not necessarily true. The vehicle can still be rolling even though the speedometer reads 0. In backed up traffic, mine will crawl at idle in 2nd. Next time that happens I'll have to pay attention to the speedometer.

Your trans can also remain in 2nd at a full stop depending on how you use the paddle shifters or select terrain settings.

If these aren't the cases then you have a separate problem from the harsh shift issue.
