Is, was, and seemingly will continue to be rough even after 3 different resets over 8000miles.

It goes back in to a different dealership on Tuesday and as I have been complaining to Jeep Cares on a weekly basis, I am being assigned a case manager. When I get his/her contact info I am sending them a copy of all these threads so they can no longer claim that I am a crazy person and the only one with this problem that they claim does no exist.

Even if everybody had the same problem, it would not automatically negate the possibility that you are crazy.

It is not a programming issue, at least not that has been seen to this point.
You say it is not a programming issue. I read here and other forums where some people say they have the issue in eco mode, but not other modes. That sounds like it can be programmed away to me. So would you please elaborate on why you believe it is not a programming issue.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I believe it is a programming issue because if I drive in sport mode, it is definitely smoother. On downshifts (coming to a complete stop) I let the tranny do its own thing while in sport mode and it is much smoother than either Eco or non-Eco mode. It is my wife's primary car and she is only comfortable using auto, so hopefully there is a flash update at some point. We are waiting till the first oil change, as the 2nd battery reset seemed to smooth things out a bit, but it is far from perfect.

With the complaints I have knowing that it could be better, I still like it better than my old 5 speed. Sure the 5 speed was smoother but its called a slushbox for a reason. 8 speed just isnt as slushy. I'm sure they will tune it up better at some point, just waiting around for that day. In no way would it stop me from recommending the vehicle though.
Same here pretty much. Overall I absolutely love the vehicle and the tranny. However that's not to say I don't hope that at some point they come out with a programming update to improve upon some things. In my experience most of the time the tranny has been a joy (I always run with Eco Mode off 99.9% of the time, Sport mode the other .1%) but there are times where I've noticed it's not the most graceful and the shifts are either rough or delayed. This could also be partly my fault, not just driving style but perhaps also unreasonable expectations for any tranny?

Anyway as one example, a couple of times I've been approaching a stop light and the light turns yellow as I'm just starting to gain speed. So I push down hard on the pedal and it takes a second for the system to react and do anything -- I guess this is the throttle response delay and Sport Mode would probably fix this. Anyway, since I don't want to end up going over the speed limit, once I reach it or get close I let off the gas quickly. For about maybe a second after letting off the gas, the RPMs stay high before it finally shifts, and the shift is a rough one.

Edit: I forgot to mention I've got the V6.

If it were only programming, you could duplicate it using specific conditions on all vehicles. I am not saying that programming will not be part of the solution as it very well could. My comments were following up people asking why it does not get "recalled" and that is not going to happen... It is not as common as people think.

I will tell you what I do know about this type of problem. There are 2 groups of complaints, those that do not like the lag in shift etc, which will not change to reach economy rules and the people who are likely having a real mechanical problem. There was already one report of moisture in the transmission and as they are sealed units it is way more likely this is a fluid level or humidity problem during manufacturing (problem gets worse over time and is made better by shanging the shift speed maps). As there is no "official" information on the 8spd / V6 issue I would imagine the source of the problem is still under investigation.

I know it seems like there are a LOT of people having 8spd V6 issues but frankly people come here because they have issues. As far as North American distribution of that transmission there is not a lot of complaints. If there were, the solution would have already been posted as a STAR Case.

Edit: My cause theories are based on past experience not anything specific about this transmission.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I have the 5.7 with 8 speed and overall I think it is smooth. The only complaint I have about it is coasting to a slow down it seems it downshifts too soon and causes some engine braking and then I have to give it a little gas. This is a programming issue, so I will just have to wait and see if they come out with an update or just leave it the way it is.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I totally see updates coming for slight performance changes such as you mention... very possible!

Just trying to point out that every problem is not the same root cause.

Jp, this is my main complaint as well. The tranny often times is downshifting too soon.

However, yes I have driven an 8 speed transmission: made by BMW and that was like butter. I never once even felt the shifting!

Regarding the air suspension message: I have had it thrown more than just twice. I throws it a great deal: when I am not using it: and it is very cool outside. Excuse me for not being a complacent doormat about this issue like you. When a vehicle throws an error message, that's alarming especially with only 1k miles on it. Moreover, maybe you have the money to throw around if this car keeps breaking down over time once the warranty is over, but I don't. Plus, I expect a better performing vehicle, especially one with only 1k miles. These two issues are only two of the many I am having to include the remote start, uconnect issues, etc. Maybe you are happy with a half piece of crap vehicle for almost 50k, but I am not.
Wow...you sound like a total ass by jumping on another forum member who is just trying to help.

Xmonger,

you have no idea what you are talking about. I am not going to get into linguistics with you. The way he utilized his language clearly indicated he was trying to be sarcastic by asking me if I ever had driven an 8 speed transmission. He was not trying to help. He was basically telling me to "deal with it" and let it break down and then get it fixed: rather than having Jeep own up to their mistakes.
