I personally thought this one applied but was told it didn't.

I wish we could just do our own updates.

I'd call a different dealership with your VIN and see what they say. I think your service dept. just didn't want to be bothered by you. My .02

Ah, gotcha....so the way TSB's work is they are a packaged fix to a common problem that affects vehicle grouped usually by build date and config. They exist for when the customer complains of the "Symptom" listed in the TSB the dealer has a canned solution. Not all vehicles in the build date range and config are affected and/or not all customers will notice or care. These are usually not tagged to a VIN unless they are a RRT style TSB or other specific situation like safety or whatever. Those tend to be elevated to Recall or CSN status which are always VIN driven.

So when the dealer does a VIN search they can only find the VIN coded stuff. The system is blind to non-VIN coded TSB's.

So if you want a TSB applied you would need to complain about (and usually have ) the symptom.

Make sense ?

Definitely. Thank you for explaining. I'll print out a copy of the TSB next time to take with me. I'm sure I'll be up there again soon for the AC smell.

Also most service advisors absolutely hate when a customer walks in with a TSB. They generally hate a forum "armed" customer. They take it as the cuatomwr being a know-it-all and you are telling them what the problem/fix is when they view that as their tech's job, to figure it out. Some SA's can be cool if you have a chat and make them understand you like to self-help to avoid wasting their time and so when you stumble across a TSB that seems to match your situation you would like to simply point it out "in case it helps"... you get my drift...the softer the approach the better.

I'm hoping my first impression of this guy is correct. He seems like a mopar enthusiast and is a member of the Challenger forums and local club... we chatted about cars for a good 30 minutes today. He seemed legit but I guess I'll find out in my next visit.

You certainly have a handle on it then. Never know which part of the spectrum you are talking to so I error on the safe side.

One of the funnier things to witness in the service department area is to be on the sidelines when a customer waltzes in with a TSB in hand and flatly tells the SA to perform the TSB. The look on the SA's face is just priceless. :0

Ya that's the "Built" date but the real build date is in lower rt corner of same label in the MMDDHH format. It gives the actual day (DD) and hour (HH) in military time. This is the date to use for TSB date cuts.

That's why when I show up at the dealership with a printed copy of a TSB, I tell them Chrysler Customer Care told me to give this to you.

As for the status of my Jeep, it's been in the shop for a week now awaiting a call from Chrysler telling the dealership to proceed with the transmission repair work or not (whatever that may be) since I have requested a second "buy back". They were unable to find the coolant leak though.

The good news is the dealership was able to replicate the rough downshifting...admitting to Chrysler that there is in fact an issue even after three reflashes/relearns.

Bad news is I've been driving a Chevy Sonic for a week...

Wow, they couldn't even give you something close to your GC for a rental? I can't believe you are going through another Buy Back. I'd say hopefully you write of the GC for now and get something different. I'm not telling you that you should but I can't think of many people that would want to temp fate again after going through it twice. Hopefully they get it all figured out so you can get a good vehicle again.

I had the latest TSB done on mine and it didn't fix the 1-2 jump and I'm not exactly sure they did a full reset of the learning process. Guess I will try pulling the power again to see if that helps.

If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

So you're on your second jeep with problems?

Thanks for the kind words SnoFire.

I haven't received a buy back yet for my current 2014 GC Overland V6 4x4 (still in limbo...still sporting a Chevy Sonic), and my first 2014 GC Limited V6 4x4 I traded in for my current Overland because the Limited had even MORE problems. The current dealership my Overland is at called me today and said it won't be until Monday before the Technical dept. calls them to either proceed with a reapair or not. So that means I will have been without my Jeep for over 11 days...and you know what...I don't even care. The love is gone.

Between these two Jeeps, I have made over 15 trips to three different dealerships...mostly for a rough shifting transmission. Two years now I've had to deal with this crap, and frankly I'm tired of it...tired of this problematic vehicle I paid good money for, tired of the lousy service from Jeep dealerships, and tired of the crappy loaner/rental cars. I really hope Chrysler offers me some sort of buy back so I can just move on.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

How can one tell if they applied the TSB. They said they updated the trans, but I still have the rough downshifting and when on cruise control the constant in and out from 7-8 gear.
