Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

The real concern here is that they really do not have a fix yet for these transmissions, software updates, and new valve bodies have not corrected the problems as yet, even those who had their transmissions replaced seem to be having the same problems as well as a few that have used the lemon law to get a new 2015, I think we either have to wait and see if they come up with a real cure, or just live with a great car with a a crappy transmission

What's ridiculous is that the ZF 8HP70 is an AWESOME transmission...but for whatever reason Jeep can't figure out how the hell to properly integrate it.

The 14 Limited I traded in for the 14 Summit was a V8 one. And even that transmission seemed to have some shifting problems on the one I had. Maybe it was due to being an earlier build date. Are the later build date V8s all taken care off now?

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I wouldn't buy another Chrysler/Jeep product solely for the poor service I've received from the 4 dealerships I've been too in my area.

Night and day compared to the awesome service my wife gets with her 2014 BMW 328i xDrive...which has only been back to the dealership for oil changes.

Either a 2016 BMW 330i xDrive (2016) or a 2015/2016 Mercedes C300 sport 4Matic will be my next vehicle.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

So... I picked my new replacement SRT today and put about 160 miles on her today. I'm happy to report that there is ABSOLUTELY NO CLUNK during the 6-5 downshift or anywhere else. It is very smooth shifting up and down. It's build date is May 2nd for those interested. The only issue I have found is the fender flair on the back door is misaligned which my dealer is going to fix during its first service. I'm going to give her a good clay barring in the next couple days so I'll report back if there are any small paint imperfections, but so far overall the paint seems to have good even coverage with the typical orange peel texture. The driving experience so far has been night and day. We'll see what the next couple hundred miles brings.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

Good to hear JS...my new one doesn't seem to clunk but the downshifting is still erratically rough. It seems better than my last one though. Hopefully yours doesn't "learn" to misbehave as you get more miles on it. Mine got better as I put some miles on it, actually (~500 now).

On your misaligned flare, do you mean it's attached a little low on the door so it's uneven with the piece over the wheel well? I have that as well and will have the dealer resolve it when I get around to it.

There is a clip on the trailing edge of the flare that is loose and can't be engaged because the double sided tape on the leading edge is holding it out of alignment. If that makes any sense. The body shop is going to pull off the flair put new tape on it and realign it. Here is a pic.

Yeah overall I'm pretty disappointed at how shoddily the flares seem to be thrown on...I have seen very few SRT's that had them all well aligned. Luckily it's probably pretty easy to pull and reattach them properly.

On mine I have a rear flare that's a little wonky and my front driver's side one doesn't stay clipped in at the front, probably needs to be replaced entirely if the molded-in clip is bad.

I hope that's not the case, but at least yours is white so the paint match should be easier. I can't believe some of this stuff doesn't get caught at the factory. My passenger door panel have a rattle in it that my son fixed by pushing it in. It sounded like another clip that wasn't seated properly. Also that little coin holder in front of the window switch on the passenger side wasn't pushed down into place. Minor annoyances, but still enough to make you wonder what else wasn't attached properly. "Imported from Detroit" is what I've been muttering.

Makes you really wonder about how they do their final inspections when you see things like that. Also after 2 years on the other fender flares I have about 7 or 8 lift points that I have been injecting small bits of adhesive trying to keep them on the jeep, bad choice of attachment method with that two sided tape for that application. Enjoy your new machine

Well in the lemon buyback process, they provided a maxcare lifetime warranty on the new Jeep, so ultimately I'm not too worried about it, but it is annoying that there's guaranteed to be a lot of visits to the dealer for warranty work over the years in my future.

If I just listed out in bullet points all the small defects or errors I corrected (or had to have the dealer correct) on both the Jeeps I've had it would be at least 30-40 items long. I am pretty picky about my cars, but for reference my Audi RS5 (similar price range) had a grand total of 2, rear sunshade rattled and a logo was very slightly defective on the rear.

FCA just still hasn't figured out the formula for good QC/QA. Pretty great design team though.
