Well that is an option but I was thinking to go with a local mechanic. my concerns are that should I consider the rough shifts as a sign that the JGC might just be ruining the tranny.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

My 15 SRT has a rough 6 to 5 downshift. It has done it since new and now has 750 miles on it. It does it everytime, hot, cold, dosent matter. Dealer did a relearn today but told me it's a performance vehicle and operating normal...

Tech stated the trany does extra things on the 6 to 5 downshifts and that's why I feel it and not the others...

I would not trust a local mechance with a transmission like that unless they were professionally trained for that type of tranny. That's a ZF tranny with Jeep customach inside, I understand. Take it to another dealer and not the same one you have been taking it to..

If the dealer didn't fix it...you can try pulling the TCM fuse (its #32 in my Limited Ecodiesel) the owners manual will tell you. Pull it out for about two minutes then put it back in and go drive it to see if it still does it. All it does is reset the learn and then it will adapt to your style of driving. When I do it to mine it shift like its brand new

Tech is a trained transmission tech. And they are SRT delaer/service center. Will take it to another one if I get time.

Smile Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

i have a 14 JGC Loredo and have had the same issues, although I didn't see a lot of concerns with it in the first 2 years. Started with hard downshifts at 5 and 4 while slowing for a light or something. So hard sometimes I was afraid i'd get rear ended.

I've been reading up on the posts here and I saw the two suggestions on pulling the negative cable and/or the TCM fuse. Very strange negative cable configuration I didn't mess with that approach yet, I needed the car to drive family member to the doctors and didn't want to risk f'ing something up so I just pulled the TCM and left it out for about 15 minutes while i checked fluids etc. I did notice a difference. maybe placebo effect as i've read, but I did notice the hard downshifts were gone (so far anyway) and the hesitation of getting out of 1st and 2nd gear from a start improved. I failed to mention that issue above, but I'd step on the gas and felt like she would just get stuck there, then decide to go.

Off topic here, but I've owned several GC's and loved them all. The 14 has a ride like none before, but a little getting used to the 8 speed, sport mode etc., but I'm a jeep die hard I guess. 8 speeds are coming to some of the other manufacturers I've read anyway, so I'm guessing they are here to stay. i thought about switching to another brand, but when I look and test drive, they just aren't a Jeep. And not considering foreign (nothing against anyone at all), I don't care how luxurious anyone claims them to meet, they just don't match a jeep in my book.

Here's an honest advice guys... trade this piece of junk in while you can. If you keep hanging on to it, you will just continue to diminish your trade value. I've had two WK2's in the last 3 years and both have had the same issues. Junk.

Re: If your 8spd trans is rough, put your hand up

I have the ecodiesel.

I experience the 3-2 and sometimes the 2-1 bumps. Did relearn, sort of helped. Put valve body in, made it worse.

Dropped it off this morning for a new transmission. Fingers crossed...

My 2014 GC Overland V6 does this "bump" too. Pulling the negative cable fixes it for a few weeks or a month.

I test drove a new 2017 Overland V6 and it did the same thing. The sales rep who was on the ride said I wasn't driving normal, LOL.

14 GC Laredo at the dealership last Friday.
Was told it shifts as it should because it's electronic shifting.
