Inappropriate Autiomatic Braking - Recall?

I saw this mentioned on Leftlane:
Inadvertent braking sparks Jeep Grand Cherokee investigation | New and Used Car Reviews, Research & Automotive-Industry News & LeftLaneNews

Our 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland has done it once in the 38,000 miles I've driven it - Applied the brakes full force for no obvious reason. I was not coming up on somebody turning or any other such situation. It was on a city street. There was a car(s) in front, but again, no apparent reason for the brake activation. How does the forward radar avoid acting on signals from other things emitting radar signals?

Wow thats scary.. Ive had mines jump on me switching lanes but i guess i was to close for comfort ( for the sensors) and it almost caused me to get rear ended.. I took mines off i believe in the settings from the radio.. The close call over nothing almost did more harm then good.. Hope that can be sorted out in the dealer and not something they cant source

I have mine turned off completely. I did have the braking turned off and have the brake audio/visual alert turned on (but didn't know it), and I was driving thru a construction area, and it had a pretty high angled "S" turn where the lanes shifted. And I got the audio/visual "BRAKE" alert as I shifted in the "S" turn, b/c a car was stopped in the left turn lane but my car was aimed at this car. Luckily the "braking" part was turned off, b/c I feel it would've made me poop in my pants. lol. Ever since I turned that feature completely off.

FCW can only apply ~40% of the brake and only for a few seconds before it gives up braking and will let you hurtle to your doom (haha).

When a FCW false alarm happened to me (quite a few times) I just swore at the system and stepped on the accelerator to power over the braking. I have subsequently switched the FCW system to "Near" rather than "Far" and my false alarms are essentially eliminated.

I consider FCW a lame feature until it can bring the vehicle to a stop by itself with zero driver interaction. Oh well, FCW is merely a concomitant "freebie" feature that uses the hardware necessary for ACC, and ACC is the best thing since dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens.

It's not completely lame only had it happening on very sharp turns and when somebody turned right and I let the car roll. Sensor thought I should brake. Scared me a bit but I also had 2 occurrences when it actually helped. Traffic jam on the highway car I front slammed the breaks fcw saved me..I was lost looking at the scenery.

Agree it has helped me also in that pulsing traffic where it is continually speeding up to 50 or so and back down to 10. easy to misjudge it, I have only had it get on the brakes hard two times in two years, the actual mitigation part not that temporary minimal shuddering thing it does just to warn. if you misjudge braking needed it gets on the brakes with additional needed. doesn't take the place of paying attention to driving but is nice to have something watching out if you miss something

No system designed and built by man is idiot proof. And even if one was developed, someone would just go and make a better idiot.

So far, I really like the FCW and ACC system in my 2015 Overland. But the ultimate responsibility for controlling my vehicle rest with me.
