Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

I have had this issue since my '12 Overland had 200 miles on it. It now has 2700 miles and the sound appears almost every day. I drive 34 miles one way to work each day and it appears at the end of my drive home. I hear the noise from the right rear area and only during slow curves to the right. I haven't noticed it turning to the left yet. Also, the speed that I hear the noise is aroung 15 to 20 mph. When I leave work tonight I will select "Sport" mode and see what happens. More to follow, Happy Turkey day to you all!

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

The noise is very specific to that 5mph speed. If you Jeep is not making a quick rub noise specifically when accerating through 5mph or a moaning droan when coasting at 5mph, your noise may be unrelated. Can any of you 2012 guys confirm that you are hearing the 5mph rub/moan?

You may be right. However, When I drove home last night while in "Sport" mode the sound I hear didn't come back until I switched back to "Auto" mode.

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

This noise is in the transfer case. The reason you don't hear it as much in sport mode is because 80 percent of the power gets transfered to the rear in sport mode. I have been down this road with this nosie the only way they got rid of the noise on mine was to replace the transfer case. I spent 3 months dealing with this when these were new and no one had posted on these forums about it yet. The noise I am talking about is at 5 mph only

Did Jeep ever send out a memo that the noise was normal? The dealer told me Jeep was going to be releasing a statement.

Anyone actually have this resolved? I'm curious.

Dealers say alot of things. I really don't think they are going to put out a statement saying that a loud moaning or rubbing noise at only 5mph and only on some vehicles is normal. But I could be wrong.

I haven't taken it in for them to take a look at. Figured I would mention it next time I go in for something. I purchased the lifetime warranty so I am not in a hurry to have it looked at.

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

Yep, I am hearing a slight "rub" sound, mostly after I've been driving slow through a parking lot or campground and am coasting up to a stop sign. I don't hear it until I am down < 5 mph. Sounds like an old drum brake dragging on a rusty hub, but not quite as loud. I never hear it when stopping after driving "normally". Only after I have gone some distance at 20 mph or less and then sort of coast slowly up to a stop sign. It's going to have to get more frequent and louder before I have them tearing my transfer case down.

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

Thanks for this thread. Took my wk2 to the shop yesterday with this problem. I will inform my dealer as they indicated that I am the only customer with a 2011 that has this issue. They told me to drive it and bring it back if the noise gets worse. Don't want to do that and risk getting stuck on a back road.

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

I am new to the forum and happy I have found this thread, I am based in the UAE (Dubai) and recently purchased a 2011 V6 GC.

I have a similar problem and the dealers here don't seem to have any idea what it could be. Its sounds like something being shifted by what I would imagine being a solenoid.

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

Well, I did not have the moan for the first 6 months and 5000 miles. Then they replaced my gas tank under the sloshing TSB. Now I have the 5 mph moan and the same moan intermittently when I put it in reverse and back out of a parking space. Along with the fact that my gas gauge now will only go to 7/8 of a tank when I full up, I wish I had kept the sloshing.

Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph

Back to the dealer today and the regional manager here in Dubai says its the brakes activating or should I say the brake pads making contact with the disc. When I asked why he couldnt answer me. So still no clarity
