Re: intermittent rub / moan upon accelerating from a stop or <5mph
OK All, my 5 mph rub/ moan noise from the transfer case seems to have finally been fixed and it was quite an interesting fix. The dealer fixed it in late November and its still quiet here in late February. I will spare you all the details but 2 years in, 3 dealers later, multiple components inspected/replaced, including the tcase itself, and finally a call to Jeep customer service got the right person, most likely an engineer, to diagnose the vehicle's problem without ever seeing it since it was in my possession when they came up with the fix.
The exact notes on the service ticket are:
"CS HEARS MOANING NOISE WHEN SLOWING FROM 8-5 MPH PER STAR TICKET #573695 THE VEHICLE HAS THE WRONG FDCM FOR THE VEHICLE BUILD. IT HAS MODULE # 56029423 AND IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE 68194552.
REPLACED THE FDCM WITH 68194552AB. TEST DROVE VEHICLE AND VERIFIED NOISE IS NO LONGER PRESENT."
So there you have it, the boys at the factory installed the WRONG final drive computer (forget if this is the same as DTCM or PCM) and I have been driving with this for over two years. Not sure how the Jeep ran like that, but besides the noise being gone the truck seems to be more responsive. Hope this helps anyone who has had this issue, read back through this thread if you want more history.
My Jeep is a 2011 WK2 Larado 3.6L 4WD w/ 2-Speed Transfer Case built in 11/2010.
