Is buying a 2014 worth it?

After reading all these issues, a/c, clunks, vibrations, shifting, is this a good car? Has Jeep made any in roads to correcting these issues. I'm in the middle of a lemon law suit with ford and don't want to have to go through it again? Any opinions, advice, thank you.

I haven't had any a/c, clunks, vibrations, or shifting issues, not everyone has them...Just like not every Ford owner is having the same problems you are having. Buying a vehicle is like picking apples, you're gonna get a bad one once in a while.

Re: Is buying a 2014 worth it?

A few folks have had to go the buy back route. Most of the problems with the Jeep seem to be annoying, but not serious. A lot of (virtual) ink was spent on having to click a remote four times instead of twice to remotely open the hatch. There are problems with texting which today's update may have gone a long ways in correcting.

I don't think Jeep is ignoring any of the problems, but 9 months into production they might be a little slow in solving them all.

The most common complaint with the a/c is how it operates when you remote start the car. Annoying to some, sure. But once sitting in the car the a/c works fine. There is currently a service bulletin to correct the problem.

They also have a service procedure for the rough shifting tranny. Some say it work while others still aren't happy. So, they may have a little more work to do.

If you want to buy a vehicle and expect it to be virtually trouble free, the 2014 might not be your first choice. But I don't know of any other vehicle with the Jeep's capabilities that is trouble free. Of course their aren't many with the same capabilities.

If you are looking for a mall crawler and don't need true 4wd or off road functionality you will find a longer list of what appear to be more reliable vehicles. You would have an even better chance with a model that is in its second or third year of production. Or wait for a 2015 Jeep. They should have the bugs out by then.

Bottom line, I don't regret my purchase.

Not a single regret with my Jeep.

Re: Is buying a 2014 worth it?

If you figure a 10x multiplier for posted problems vs actuals and 142,000 '14 WK2s sold so far, the failure rate is around 3 tenths of a percent or about 997 chances in 1,000 you will have no problems.

I would check the ground wires carefully on delivery though but then I have a rather long checklist I go through (e.g. check for fluid in differential...).

Re: Is buying a 2014 worth it?

Jeep bought back my 1999 GC. It had a howling front axle that came on at 60 mph and got louder the faster you drove. Otherwise, we loved the car and did not want to give up on it. After three axles, we had no choice. Turned out that the axle supplier was shipping out of spec axles. The car simply didn't have a chance.

Fast forward to today. We looked at everything that came remotely close to meeting our needs. The Overland not only met our needs, but it goes way beyond, both in performance and comfort. Yes, the transmission was a bit rough shifting in ECO mode. Normal and Sport modes were fine. The transmission flash made the ECO mode function the way it was originally designed.

Virtually every other aspect of the vehicle exceeds my expectations. No regrets.

Re: Is buying a 2014 worth it?

I have a few annoyances, but no regret in buying. I think I avoided some issues by getting it in built in mid august.

Some of the issues are just a matter of getting used to something that is done differently. That's happened to me on a lot of cars.

Overall it's a beast.

My wife got 99 VW Passat with a Stick. We have owned many sticks before. But it took 10K miles before we could drive it without jerking every ones head. Turned out to be a great car. 227K and still on the original clutch.

When I first got the 2002 GC. I couldn't keep it centered on the highway. Kind of forgot about it after while. Never did anything.

If I have to drive it in non ECO mode I will. Drives fantastic that way. But I'm greedy I love the MPG in ECO mode. And I want it to drive better in that mode, which many believe it can. Because when it behaves badly it WASTES gas.

Some folks are being nit picky because they love it and they want it to be perfect.

If you're paranoid, you could wait for a 2015.

Even though the 2014 has some bugs. I'm thrilled I didn't buy a 2013. Sat in a few one while getting my transmission updated.

It's worth dealing with a few gremlins.

My experience, in 5.5 months and 14,000mi:

-Clunky/Rough transmission. Chrys made 2 attempts so far to fix it and it is still clunky. Not as bad as before, but still certainly by no means smooth.

-HVAC system won't blow hot air on drivers side, usually when using sync.

-Bad ABS module that caused the "xmas tree light effect." Caused failures in ABS, Speedometer, Air Bag, Park Assist, Stability Control, 4WD system.

-GPS Lock up. Won't display routes. Froze map and wouldn't reset upon start up.

Obviously, my first experience with Jeep/Chrysler has been quite negative. In addition, their service at the corporate and local level has not been what I expected either. It took me 3 dealerships to find one that was helpful, but at this point, I'm looking for an exit from this thing. Soooo if you're looking for a lightly used jeep, let me know hahaha.

Re: Is buying a 2014 worth it?

I'll throw in my 'very good' rating. Mine is an Aug build and the transmission, uconnect, a/c, paint, fit and finsh have been great. I do have a beef with the heat ' settings', but that's just a technology thing compared to my 01 Cherokee.

1000+ miles on my v6 and nothing so far...sure, im a lil worried down the road....only after reading too much on here

Re: Is buying a 2014 worth it?

I finally got the payout on my 2014 GC from Chrysler last week. I had two friends interested in GC's after driving mine and I have successfully steered them away from the brand for now. Hopefully a few years down the road Jeep will be reliable enough to take a chance on another new one, but for now, the memories are still too fresh. Just my $.02 and plenty disagree with me.

But a few more years will be another new model

I'm glad they finally came through with the $$$
