Is My Arm Rest Broken or Did I Never Notice This?

Hi, I have a 2014 JGC Limited and I notice towards the back end of the arm rest there is a softball size indentation where its almost like there is no padding. I can feel what feels like some sort of plastic slats under the leather if I press down with enough pressure.

My questions are the following.

Has this always been there and I never noticed it in the 1+ year own having the Jeep?

If it is actually defective, broken, etc what can be done to fix it?

Has anyone had this problem before , if in fact its not supposed to be like this.

I have attached a pic to sort of help show what I am talking about.
Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing but I tried putting my elbow there and there is no way that's where I rest it. Its basically behind the seat back.

My son decided to step on it the other day to climb over to the front now that I think about it, but even if that is why it is like that I am confused as to what happen? Did the inside disintegrate or something cause nothing is rattling around like a broken piece or anything.

Now that I am viewing the pix which a regular computer, I see that it is not the door armrest. It is the center rest. Sorry.
