Issue with Vinyl Dashboard

I have an issue with my dashboard vinyl where the edge of the dash meets the plastic defroster vent. The vinyl appears to be burring up in spots, it almost looks like little hairs of vinyl sticking up (see picture below.) I did mention this to the Jeep service manger and he advised me not to mess with it. Iím on fence as to what to doÖ Part of me wants to leave it alone, but the perfectionist in me wants it fixed. I wonder how hard it is to replace a dash. This dash appears to be two pieces, an upper and a lower. Iím a little nervous about having the dash ripped out and replaced. What to doÖ

Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel ......

I do believe nothing good can come of attempting to mess with the little tag ends. If you must, maybe a small set of really sharp nail clippers to cut them off a little closer to the surface? What ever you do, don't attempt to pull on them as Mr Murphy won't be on your side.

Re: Issue with Vinyl Dashboard

Are the burrs from the plastic defroster vent piece or from the vinyl? It is probably because they were not trimmed properly when produced and somehow got by all the "QC". Those should be easy to trim with a razor or nail clippers without a problem. I assume you have the had plastic dash? If that is the case trimming them carefully should not cause more damage. Otherwise just take to dealer and make them fix it. Its a 40k car and still under warranty!

I have the hard plastic dash and the burrs are from the vinly. Iím just going to leave it for now. My main reason for this post is so future buyers can check this spot at delivery.

Thanks, I will inspect before I take delivery, at least then I won't have to bring it back just to show them!

Re: Issue with Vinyl Dashboard

I would see if the dealer would let you take this to a place that repairs interiors. They may be able to touch up the spots to the point where it may be unnoticeable. Otherwise I would chalk this up to being a "buyer beware" learning situation. Good luck.
